Photoshop - Homepage matching with profile picture

    casalazar

Hello, I am looking at how to combine the profile picture on my webpage with my background for my site.  What tool in Photoshop is used to make the outside edges faded/transparent and not have big edges?  Please let me know.  Website URL:  http://chris-salazar.com/blog/

      Thank you so much,

      Chris Salazar

There are several ways to fade an image.

          • First place the background image in the same document and make sure it is the bottom layer. This will help you verify that it will look OK.
          • If the profile image is a locked background layer. Unlock it by dragging the lock icon to the trashcan in the layers panel.
          • Probably the easiest way to create a fade is to use the gradient tool on a mask.
          • So make sure the profile layer is the layer selected
          • Click on the small icon at the bottom of the layer panel that looks like a circle inside of a square.
          • Click on the new thumbnail that was created in theprofile layer. That makes sure that you are editing the mask.
          • Select the gradient tool
          • In the top left corner of the top tool bar, click on the down arrow next to the gradient
          • Select the black to white gradient (third icon)
          • Just to the right of the gradient in the top tool bar are some icons that set the type of gradient. Click on the radial gradient
          • Drag the gradient from the center of your image in the document to the edge
          • Repeat until it looks right
          • When done click on the image thumbnail on the profile layer (just to the left of the mask thumbnail that you click on earlier)
          • Save your image

If you have any issues or questions post back. (Hopefully all the instructions are there as I am recalling from memory)
