1. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
BobLevine Jan 13, 2011 5:39 AM (in response to Shlomit Heymann)I'd really need to see the file, but the corner options have changed dramatically in CS5.

2. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
P Spier Jan 13, 2011 6:18 AM (in response to Shlomit Heymann)What Bob said, and there was a bug in early versions that allowed you to do some strange things with corners and moving points (I never used it and don't remember the deatails, but Bob or someone else might), and that bug was repaired in CS4, as I recall, breaking many frames that used it when they were converted. Could this be the case here?
That said, it is no longer possible to make a true semi-circular end cap on a frame using corner effects, and it's also possible that's the issue. I think ity's related to the addition of live corner effects. ID now always inclueds a short straight segment at each corner, and seems to reduce the radius as much as required to fit the corners, regardless of the radius specified.

philipking Feb 13, 2013 7:36 AM (in response to ingertje)I've just encountered this myself with an old CS3 document opened in CS6. The original had lovely semi-circular ends to boxes (confirmed by PDF made from the CS3 document), but in the same document newly opened in CS6 the boxes have flattened semi-circles where the corner arcs don’t meet. I am not at all happy about this and will be reporting it as a bug, if I can work out how.

BobLevine Feb 13, 2013 7:46 AM (in response to philipking)Same answer as two years ago. Corner options have changed dramatically.

6. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
philipking Feb 13, 2013 7:59 AM (in response to BobLevine)Thanks Bob, I can see it’s changed! The way it worked before was the logical and expected behaviour: set corner radius to r, set rectangle height to 2r, the result should be a semicircle.
I’ve filed it as a bug.

7. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
Laubender Feb 13, 2013 10:42 AM (in response to philipking)@philip – there are some scripts around by Hans Haesler at:
http://www.fachhefte.ch/downloads.php?read_group=18&groupIDX=3
Choose the OS there and your InDesign version one step further.
There are three scripts for corner effects (="Eckeneffekte" in German).
The UI for the scripts is in French or in German (sorry, no English versions).
You might find those very useful constructing perfect semicircles or other shapes at the corners:(The links here are for Mac OSX = all scripts are packed in sit-archive files)
EckenEffekte.js (=CornerEffects.js)
EckenEffekteMix.js (=CornerEffectsMix.js)
EckenEffektePlus.js (=CornerEffectsPlus.js)
I would give them a try!

philipking Feb 14, 2013 1:03 AM (in response to Laubender)Thanks Uwe, but while I am grateful for the time you have taken to reply at such length I feel life is too brief to follow such a goose chase. Adobe should fix it. I don’t have time to learn to use javascript, let alone learn German, just to do something I could do quickly and easily before upgrading.

9. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
P Spier Feb 14, 2013 8:46 AM (in response to philipking)First, it's not a bug, it's a changed behaviior to allow corner effects to remain live and changeable, but it has this particularly unfortunate side effect if you want to mak semi-circles.
Second, ID actually has a Corner Effects script in the samples installed with the application, so you don't really need to

philipking Feb 15, 2013 3:35 AM (in response to P Spier)What’s the difference between ‘unfortunate side effect’ and ‘bug’?
It worked before, but it doesn’t work now, with a direct and noticable effect on files made in an earlier version. Ergo: it’s broken.

11. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
Laubender Feb 15, 2013 4:23 AM (in response to philipking)@philip – can we say:
the feature was re-interpreted by Adobe? Is that fair? Don't know…
Language apart, just try the scripts I mentioned. There are some cool features built in.
And the corners are more round. See the following screen shots:
1. Example
2. Example with option "Bulge Straight Lines Slightly":
Hope, that helps.

12. Re: Shapes with rounded corners made in CS3 are changed in CS5
P Spier Feb 15, 2013 4:38 AM (in response to philipking)The differnce between a bug and a feature is if it is working as it was intended, and in this case it is, so there is nothing to "fix" about the code to make it work the way it is supposed to work in the current version. Yes, that is differnt from the way it used to work in CS3, as are other features. The program evolves. In CS3 the corner effects were not live.
I don't like the way the feture works now, either, but I understand that the changes were made in response to user requests, and since I know that the correct corner rounding can still be achieved, when necessary, using the script, I can live with it. If you want to see things changed back you can file a feature request yourself at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form, but don't hold your breath. And don't file it as a bug because it to the engineers it is not a bug, and it will simply get marked "as designed" and ignored.
