There are some problems with ADE2.0 on XP, especially if you are on a pre SP3 release of XP.

See if you get on better with the older v1.7.2.  As well as working better on XP, it is more reliable in various other ways.

Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
