License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_MISSING_ELEMENT

I am unable to view books I've downloaded from my local library. The library web page shows I have the books checked out, but ADE shows no books on the bookshelf. When I start ADE, I get an error message stating "Unable to download. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_MISSING_ELEMENT". Now I'm stuck. The library says I have the books checked out, but ADE is saying they haven't downloaded. I can't return the books or view them. I've tried both ADE 1.7.2 and 2.0. Neither are working. What to do?

Same issue. Running OSX 10.8.2. Anybody have any luck?
