1. Re: Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade
confused_again Feb 14, 2011 5:42 AM (in response to confused_again)UPDATE
Actually, this doesn't seem to be a conversion issue. Just tried it with a clean CS5 file and I get the same result. If a grouped item is on the master page, it will still be seen on the live page even when the objects are disconnected from the template. Is there any way to stop this ghosting effect, or do you just have to avoid having groups on the masterpages?

BobLevine Feb 14, 2011 5:50 AM (in response to confused_again)What do you mean by "disconnected from the template?"

3. Re: Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade
confused_again Feb 14, 2011 5:53 AM (in response to BobLevine)I guess I mean detached - ie, I "Apple Shift Click" on the grouped items on the live page, thereby unlocking them from their "masterpage" state.

4. Re: Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade
BobLevine Feb 14, 2011 6:00 AM (in response to confused_again)When you do that, all you've done is bring them to the live page. If you don't want them, delete them.

5. Re: Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade
confused_again Feb 14, 2011 6:09 AM (in response to BobLevine)Sorry. you're missing the point. I DO want the items. The problem is, when I "bring them to the live page" they are seeing an invisible version of the group underneath them, so the text in the text box wraps round the invisible object, if that makes sense. There is nothing on the live page for it to be wrappng round, but the problem centres on where the grouped items sit in the master page (moving the grouped items away from that spot makes them behave normally). Ungrouping the items on the masterpage solves the problem - but I would prefer to keep them grouped.
If you want to replicate, try this:
1) On a masterpage, draw a text box and put some text in it.
2) Draw a smaller image box, give it a wrap, and position it so it is over part of the text box (so that the copy in the text box acts as a caption for the image).
3) Group the items
4) Go to the live page and Apple Shift click to "release the group". The text (for me) now starts wrapping round the ghost of the grouped items (ie it tends to be pushed to overmatter).

BobLevine Feb 14, 2011 6:25 AM (in response to confused_again)Go to your master page and select the object with the wrap applied. Open the text wrap panel menu.
Is Apply to Master Page Only selected?

P Spier Feb 14, 2011 6:25 AM (in response to confused_again)And as a precaution to avoid unexpected problems with converted legacy files, I highly recommend you export the template to .inx and open that in CS5, then save as a new template.

P Spier Feb 14, 2011 6:34 AM (in response to confused_again)Wait a sec. I just was doing something else to the test file I made and moved the overridden group. The text wrap applied to the master image frame IS still active. I think this is a bug. I don't have time this morning to file it, but you can: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Hmmm. That seems to make a difference, but I'm not convinced it isn't a bug. You don't need to do that in CS4.

12. Re: Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade
confused_again Feb 17, 2011 2:34 AM (in response to BobLevine)Sorry, have been away from my desk a couple of days. This definitely looks like a bug. I tried creating fresh templates from inx files. Also tried creating templates from new document in 5. Same results. Using the "Only apply to masterpage" trick didn't seem to help (and would be counterproductive anyway as I want the wrap in the live file too). Only work around I can see at the moment is to avoid having any grouped items in my masterpages. Has this problem been logged as a bug now?

BobLevine Feb 17, 2011 6:33 AM (in response to confused_again)Even if it has, you should do it, too. The more the merrier as they say.

wbset09 Mar 11, 2013 6:46 AM (in response to confused_again)Did anyone ever figure out how to fix this issue? I am having the same problem. If an object with a text wrap on the master page is GROUPED it causes a phantom/ghost textwrap on the live page when the object is released from the master.Ungrouping the object works correctly. But I want to keep the object grouped and the phantom text wrap is a major issue....
