1. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 10:07 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)Solid green screen typically indicates a missing codec or incompatible file type.
As a test, what happens if you create a new project on the CS6 system, import one of the AVI files and drop into a new sequence?
Regarding your Scratch disk error, you may have to re-assign your scratch disc when moving the project to a different system. Look under the Project menu drop down, select Project Settings, Scratch Discs...

Lone Lobo Mar 22, 2013 10:11 AM (in response to Qengineering)Just Tried creating a new project, importing one of the AVI files...shows up as green clip still.

3. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 10:19 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)I'm guessing your new CS6 computer does not have the proper codec available for that type of AVI.
Can you get the AVI to play in Windows Media Player on the CS6 computer?
I would think this would be pretty rare for CS6. Can you tell us what model DSLR created the AVIs, and was the entire file structure retained when transferred to the USB drive?

Lone Lobo Mar 22, 2013 10:19 AM (in response to Qengineering)Just played clip in Windows Media Player with no problems.

Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 10:34 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)I think we're going to need more detailed information about those AVI files (posts 3 & 5).

8. Re: Solid Green Clips
Lone Lobo Mar 22, 2013 10:36 AM (in response to Qengineering)What would you like to know specifically?

9. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 10:39 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)Um, Can you tell us what model DSLR created the AVIs, and was the entire file structure retained when transferred to the USB drive?
And John's links for apps that can do media analysis would also provide good information.

10. Re: Solid Green Clips
Lone Lobo Mar 22, 2013 10:41 AM (in response to Qengineering)DSLR was a Pentax K5
File structure must have been retained as it all works perfectly on my 5.5 system.
Does 6.0 treat the file structure differently or need something different than 5.5?

11. Re: Solid Green Clips
Ann Bens Mar 22, 2013 10:42 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)avi's from dslr are usually mjpeg.
Run them through Mediainfo and post a screendump to be sure.

12. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 10:51 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)See, now there you go. Google "Pentax K5 premiere" and you get lots of similar questions.
Try installing QuickTime on your CS6 machine.

(even though there talking about Pr Elements, it probably applies)

14. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 11:04 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)Nothing out of the ordinary here (other than the non-standard video frame rate)
Do you have a Black Magic card or drivers installed on the machine that did this analysis?
Let us know if a QuickTime install does not fix your problem.

15. Re: Solid Green Clips
Lone Lobo Mar 22, 2013 11:17 AM (in response to Qengineering)Yes, Black Magic installed with drivers (My PP 6.0 machine).
The machine that originally edited the sequence does not have a Black Magic Card.
Rebooting now after Quicktime install......
and
Timeline is still the same...Solid Green Screens.

16. Re: Solid Green Clips
John T Smith Mar 22, 2013 11:21 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)Since that says Blackmagic AVI... have you checked with Blackmagic to see if they have an update for CS6?
-
17. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 11:24 AM (in response to Lone Lobo)Well, you have to consider the fact that Black Magic (driver) has taken "ownership" of this particular file type.
It may well be a problem between Black Magic and Pentax. I don't have time to Google that possibility.

18. Re: Solid Green Clips
JSS1138 Mar 22, 2013 2:28 PM (in response to Lone Lobo)The file is MJPG. Your problem suggest that you simply don't have that installed in the CS6 machine.

19. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 2:37 PM (in response to JSS1138)Yes, but now that he has QuickTime installed, I'd bet some money it'd work fine if he UN-installed all Black Magic drivers/software....
Of course that just creates a different problem, but it wouldn't be Premiere's problem.

20. Re: Solid Green Clips
JSS1138 Mar 22, 2013 2:59 PM (in response to Qengineering)Installing QT won't do anything for playing back an AVI file.
He likely needs to install a third-party MJPG codec for this to work.

21. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 2:55 PM (in response to JSS1138)Maybe it's only on the Mac side, or QT7
Scroll down for AVI and lower is Apple M-JPEG
-
22. Re: Solid Green Clips
JSS1138 Mar 22, 2013 3:01 PM (in response to Qengineering)QuickTime isn't relevant, though, as it's not called upon when playing back AVI files.

23. Re: Solid Green Clips
Qengineering Mar 22, 2013 3:04 PM (in response to JSS1138)So, this discussion in no way applies to Premiere Pro? They're really that different?

Sorry if I mislead.

24. Re: Solid Green Clips
JSS1138 Mar 22, 2013 3:11 PM (in response to Qengineering)I admit, I find that surprising. More data needed.

25. Re: Solid Green Clips
Bill Hunt Mar 22, 2013 3:28 PM (in response to JSS1138)I sort of remember that thread.
Just checked my laptop, for MJPEG CODEC's, and all I have are the Morgan and MainConcept (installed manually), and then the Panny/Lumix and Nikon MJPEG CODEC's, installed with the cameras' drivers, or their included cataloging software. I have QT Pro on the laptop, and not one Apple MJPEG CODEC. However, my QT Pro is a few versions back, at 7.6.9 (do not upgrade that, unless I have issues), so perhaps my version just did not include any MJPEG, and later versions do?
Maybe others can comment on a fresh install of QT Player of the latest version?
Hunt
