Adobe Digital Editions encountered error & must shut down

I have a Windows XP system & use ADE for viewing some of my college e-books, worksheets, course guides etc., when I don't want to open my Internet/browser. More often than not, I receive an "error" window with "sorry, digital editions has encountered a problem and must shut down". I am offered the "details" and "submit error report" windows, but nothing has ever been submitted back or emailed in reference to "fixing" or "documented the error report you have sent". Is there an option or even an explanation for this constant interference? Thanks

I had a similar problem on an old XP machine with an AMD processor.  Solved by using version 1.7 instead of 2.0.

1.7 is available here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403051/attachments/setup.exe
