1. Re: how to make this pattern?
JJMack Apr 4, 2013 6:06 AM (in response to TomRomaniuk)You need to edit a document the will be that pattern and repeat seamlessly. Then use menu Edit>Define Pattern. Here I just created a X pattern using a text layer and trimmed the transparency defined pattern X. Then I added a net document and filled it with a spectrum gradient then select all and filled it with pattern X.

2. Re: how to make this pattern?
TomRomaniuk Apr 4, 2013 6:19 AM (in response to JJMack)Actually no. This way is very simple and basic:

the result is the same repeating grid pattern. But I asked for this, you can see the pattern is not repeating sometimes is more closer to other dots...

4. Re: how to make this pattern?
JJMack Apr 4, 2013 6:57 AM (in response to TomRomaniuk)Sometimes a patten is defined for some pixel size and may even need to have the document rotated to have the proper orientation for the pattern. For example a frame pattern for a one inch wide strip. An Action can be created to add the pattern to a mitered 1" wide strip at 300 dpi on the left side then rotate the document for the other side rotate back and dupe and flip the frame side added.
If you search the web there are a countless number of patterns that can be downloaded for free textures like woods ,paper, textiles etc.

conroy Apr 4, 2013 9:55 AM (in response to TomRomaniuk)The construction history is preserved in the Layers panel and remains fully editable.
Base colour layer is a Solid Color Fill layer.
Halftone clouds layer starts as a white Solid Color Fill layer. Convert that to a Smart Object so the applied filters will remain editable as Smart Filters.
Change the SO's blending mode to Screen.
Apply the filters to the SO in the order seen by reading upwards in the Layers panel.
Decrease the opacity of the SO and tweak the filters to get the desired effect.
