Did a complete uninstall , even download the uninstall utility
rebooted machine, also running IE 8.0.6001.18702
Tried downloading the installer and re installing failed.
Now getting frustrated. Found the help page a little confusing with many of the links not responding to clicks.
Why do you need to install by running the installer. what happens if you just download the software and run and attempt install from your local machine. Could not find a method to download the actual software.
now wish to install and earlier version while the problem is fixed. worst thing is I am now locked into needing the software. The problems and waste of time makes me look for alternatives.
Find the web pages of archived versions of minimal use because ther eis now indication of what version goes with xp and Ie8
eg what do I use from below
•(Released 4/9/2013) Flash Player 11.7.700.169 (155.54 MB)

Well gentlemen after much frustration I got the latest version installed.
Hope the flash player / adobe experts read this.
1. web site is hard to find way around- even to find this discussion page.
2. i downloaded
•(Released 4/9/2013) Flash Player 11.7.700.169 (155.54 MB)
3. next difficulty is what extracted file installs flash player. - suggest experts provide some guidance on this.
4 tried a couple of different extracted files - a few dry gullies and it eventually worked.
5 it is not easy to navigate the adobe web site and find the above achived files.
anyway my problem is solved for time being but the run time errors still exist for other users
agin s thanks for the interest and help offered

Why didn't you just use the offline installer from my earlier direct download link?

hi Pat, I tried going to the link about 3 times and lookingg for the off line installer and could not find the link.
had trouble with the page in that every time i tried to follow a link by clicking / double clicking nothing hapened ie got no response.. maybe even though i read the page through about 3 times I could not see the link you were talking about and one link that i thought was to the offline installer failed to respond to clicks/ double clicks.
cheers

That is strange; the link should get you directly to this part of the site, with the two download links
