Text Color Changes in Preview ?

The project I'm currently working on has a horizontal main menu across all pages that was set in Master A. The main menu selection changes color to show the user what page they are on.

When you select the 2nd main menu button (Stress) a 3 tab panel appears directly under the main menu. The "states" of those tabs in the panel in the following pic shows the intended button & type color, for each state.

When the stress page button is selected, focus automatically jumps to the left tab of the 3 tab panel. The concept is to lead the user from left to right on these tabs, but aside from the automatic activation  of the left tab when the page is selected, the user has the ability to make any selection after that.

The screen shot shows the left tab in the active state and the other 2 in the normal state. The screen shot was taken in design mode, where all buttons work as desired.

In both Preview and Published view the buttons work, except for the color change of the tab label type to bright yellow as shown in design mode. In those views, the label type turns to black. Keeping the selected button type a bright yellow color makes for easy location knowledge for the user. The label text is supposed to change to yellow only in the active state, hence you can't get lost. I can't get it to work right outside of design mode.
