1. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Jon Fritz II Apr 15, 2013 2:22 PM (in response to Noradc)No, there's no code you can add to force a browser to open the page over DW.
What happens when you open DW first and choose File > Open and then browse to the file you are talking about.

3. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Jon Fritz II Apr 15, 2013 2:44 PM (in response to Noradc)Sounds like the file might be corrupt.
If it is opening in a browser, view the source code, copy and paste that into a new .html file in DW and save it.

4. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Noradc Apr 15, 2013 2:48 PM (in response to Jon Fritz II)I'll try doing that. But does a new site have to be created first?

5. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Nancy O. Apr 15, 2013 3:05 PM (in response to Noradc)I don't know where you obtained the problem file. If it was in a zip folder, did you extract all the files with Winzip or StuffIt before trying to open them in DW?
It's a good idea to create a new site definition for each project you work on. Without this step, DW cannot properly manage assets for you.
Can you open the problem page in a plain text editor such as NotePad or Text Edit?
If yes, run it through the HTML validation service below to check for code errors.

6. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Noradc Apr 15, 2013 3:19 PM (in response to Nancy O.)Hello. I obtained the file by the File and Save as features in the menu. The files are on my desktop. Although, on the desktop, the index.html file is separate from the folder containing the other files. I did not extract the files from Winzip nor Stuffit before trying to open them in DW.
I will try to create a new site for this file. Doing so will take a while because I am still learning to create sites. Thank you for the ideas of getting the file to open in DW.

7. Re: Why will the html file that I downloaded from the internet not open in Dreamweaver?
Noradc Apr 15, 2013 3:27 PM (in response to Jon Fritz II)Hello. I tried copying and pasting the source code into DW. An image appeared this time in the Design view, but the background color is a very dark grey, the letters black, has medium gray squares where the images are supposed to be but are not and has yellow lines running horizontally.

Nancy O. Apr 15, 2013 3:34 PM (in response to Noradc)You obviously do not have all the supporting files.
