1. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
Dave LaRonde Apr 16, 2013 11:01 AM (in response to AlfredKubrick9)Ah, but AE has Adobe Media Encoder bundled with it, which is a very good thing indeed! In your case, AME does a much better job of encoding to H.264 than AE does.
Fom AME you can open the AE project, choose the comp you wish to export, select from one of the settings to suit your resolution and compression needs or create your own custom setting.

2. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
Todd_Kopriva Apr 16, 2013 11:38 AM (in response to Dave LaRonde)You are intended to use Adobe Media Encoder to create final delivery and distribution files from After Effects. You should only use After Effects for creating intermediate files, files for passing off to the next step in a post-production pipeline.

3. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
AlfredKubrick9 Apr 16, 2013 12:04 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)I must have missed something vital here. I can't see any "send to Adobe Media Encoder" or anything in the Export menu, or anywhere. I guess I can open it separately, but why have a "render queue" and all this when apparently I'm supposed to use a different program for "final delivery"? I guess I don't understand why it's not integrated/built in. Or at least linked to.

4. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
Todd_Kopriva Apr 16, 2013 12:10 PM (in response to AlfredKubrick9)You can drag and drop from After Effects to AME. You can use the Add After Effects Composition command in AME. Also, in the upcoming version of After Effects, there are commands in After Effects for sending compositions to AME.
The render queue is for creating movies and image sequences that are suitable for the next step in a post-production pipeline. That is a very different job than encoding movies for final delivery.

5. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
AlfredKubrick9 Apr 16, 2013 12:12 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Oh... I was so sure After Effects was "the thing you use as the final thing" after editing in Pr and then polishing/adding effects in Ae. Live and learn, I guess...

6. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
Todd_Kopriva Apr 16, 2013 12:32 PM (in response to AlfredKubrick9)It's the next-to-final thing.
My usual workflow is to use the After Effects render queue to render and export a master losslessly encoded file. That goes into a watch folder from which AME automatically picks it up and encodes it to my various delivery formats.

7. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
Rick Gerard Apr 16, 2013 8:38 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)The export feature in AE is basically useless for video and next to useless for anything else. To render to a production codec for further processing or editing in a production pipeline use Adobe's render Cue. For delivery you should use Adobe Media Encoder. It's what PPro uses to render.

8. Re: Why doesn't Ae have the output presets as Pr does?
AlfredKubrick9 Apr 17, 2013 4:39 AM (in response to Rick Gerard)I have to question this, since Pr has a "send to queue" option, suggesting that it would not have this integrated...
Man, this is a confusing mess. Sorry to say it, but it doesn't make any sense to me.

Todd_Kopriva Apr 17, 2013 7:41 AM (in response to AlfredKubrick9)As I said, in the upcoming version of After Effects, there are commands in After Effects for sending compositions to AME.
