Flash Player won't install on IE 9 Win7 64-bit

I've tried almost everything that this forum suggested but Flash player just won't install. Here is my story. A a month or so ago, flash just stopped working on IE 9. I uninstalled but now I'm unable to even download it. When click on download now, This is what it displaysflash.png and nothing ever happens. I reset my IE settings. Under tools, Safety, ActiveX Filtering is uncheck. Under Manage Add-ons I just don't see the Active x for flash add-on I'm assuming this is because flash is not installed. I even did the whole Subinacl and reset.bat file but still I'm unable to download flash. Currently Flash works fine on Firefox which is what I'm using right now. I don't have any Flash cookie cop or any other software installed that blocks flash. Am I missing something? I really do not want to reinstall windows. Is there an other way to fix this problem? I am using 32-bit IE and not 64.

thank you.

Chris,

This issue was solved finally. I figured it out eventually. Some how the registry was locked by something called FlashBroker.

As you can see the logs below. The way I fixed this was by using ComboFix. I just ran the file and it cleaned out the system and fixed all registry problems. I'm now able to see flash on IE. I'm sure someone will eventually run into this issue again so it'll be helpful for you and others to know how to fix it.

Thank you for all your help.

We could be running into an issue with a recent Windows update for Win 7 x64.

Could you check to see if you have the following Windows update installed?

KB2670838 – Platform Update for Windows 7 x64

If so, I’d first recommend you update your video driver.  If that doesn’t fix the problem, please uninstall the KB update and try again.

Thanks,

Chris

yes, I did have this update installed. I updated my video drivers last night so I know that is not the issue but I went ahead and uninstalled the updated and restarted my computer. Still the same problem. I'm unable to install flash player from the website and it's still showing Shockwave Flash Object shows under Run without permissions and not under currently loaded add-ons.

That does seem odd that it's not listed under currently loaded addons.  Did you verify that active x filtering was disabled?  Baring that, the next thing I'd suggest is a clean install of Flash Player, then a reset of IE.

How do I do a clean install of Flash Player?

Yes, I verified and active x filtering is unchecked. I followed the steps and completely uninstalled Flash and reset my IE settings but still I'm unable to install flash on IE. Currenly I have no flash installed at all. Not even on Firefox. What do you think? windows format at this point?

I don't think we'll have to do a format just yet.  What's happening when you try and install?  Does it say it's finishing properly?  What files do you have in these two folders:

c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash

c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

When I goto http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ on IE and click on Download now, Nothing happens. I don't get the Active X to popup but I went to this site and downloaded the IE Active X manually http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html and was able to install it but now again the active x is showing under Run without permission and not under currently loaded add-ons.

Here is what installed.

It appears that you have the ActiveX version of Flash installed properly.  Now the question is why isn't IE loading it.  Are you running any antivirus/security software?

You can install the version for Firefox here:

Malwarebytes should be fine, I run the pro version myself.  It's very odd that IE isn't working...  If you're interested, I'd be willing to do a short desktop sharing session with you to see if I can figure out what's going on.  You've run through most of the steps I'd take, but we might get lucky.  Shoot me an email (ccampbel@adobe.com) if this sounds interesting.

Interesting, and you had tried installing immediately after rebooting and that still didn't work?  Going to forward this on to the install team for their review but if you get a chance could you also post the contents of your flashinstall log file?

Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows?

Either way, very happy you were able to get this resolved!
