Quit Firefox eventhough it's not running

I have been trying to update Flash for a few days. but I keep getting the message quit firefox when i try to install the download eventhough firefox isnot running. I am using an iMac running Mountain Lion.

Hi,

Please go to Application > Utilities. And click Activity Monitor.

Please see if there is a process for Firefox. If yes, select and click End Process.
