Install problems - close internet explorer keeps coming up

I have tried to install multiple times today and keep getting the error message (at exactly 50% of install procedure) that I should close IE before continuing.  Even when IE closed this still occurs.  Please adivse how to address.  I run Windows 7 32 bit system.Thanks
