Hi Everyone,
I've reinstalled InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator CS5 after upgrading to Mac OSX Lion,
Photoshop and Illustrator work fine but InDesign crashes on startup.
I've followed a few threads on here, one suggested creating a new adimistrator-level user on my machine - and that works, but I can't figure out what to fix in my regular user to make InDesign work in here again...
This is the error report I'm getting:
Help, anyone?
Thanks a lot!
Thanks everyone,
I ended up going into the new user (in which indesign worked) and copying the entire preferences folder (Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/) over into my regular user (in which indesign didn't work).
Now everything works just fine.
Cheers!

1) Update Indesign to latest version...
2) Check in the new user account..

Hi Manish,
thanks for the reply -
InDesign DOES work in the new user I created, but DOESN'T in my regular mac user...
Thanks.

check after resetting the preferences on the old account:-
These are normally hidden files, so you will need to set your system to show them. They will be found in various places depending on the OS, and the version of InDesign.
InDesign Defaults:
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/<USER>/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/(Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).
InDesign SavedData:
Macintosh: Hard Drive/Users/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/<Version #>/<Language>/ (Note: Prior to version 6 [CS4] the language folder is not used).

Which means that something in your user account is corrupt. You can try trashing the prefs, but it won't help if ID never started up (see Replace Your Preferences) and may not help in any case, but it is easy.
John has posted a list of other files to try removing, which seems to work most of the time. One of these days I'll remember to bookmark it...

I'm having a similar problem but I haven't been able to get it to work. I created a new administer level user but InDesign still won't open under that user. I've tried the other suggestions as well with no success. Please help!!!! It really doesn't help that I'm in South East Asia traveling with no fast internet to be found. 😕
Here is my error log.

Everything pertinent is in the crashed thread section, I think, and in future, please post the entire log on Pastebin.com, then put a link here, instead of posting the log here directly. It makes the forum easier to read.
In any event, it looks to me like a SING problem. Try SING Removal

Hey Peter, sorry about the long error log post. Next time I will use Pastebin.com. It looks like the remove SING component worked. Can I now delete that folder from my desktop? I also removed the Datastore, should I put that back in the directory or not? Thanks so much!!!

Go ahead and delete them both. Unless you are doing the kind on work in asian languages for which SING was designed you won't miss them (and if you are, ther's a problem, since they are keeping the application from launching). Adobe removed SING entirely in CS6.

I'm having the same issue. I just got a new imac and transferred everything over. My other CS5 apps seems to be working ok but InDesign is crashing upon start up. This is the error box I'm getting:
I tried deleting the files John suggested above (couldn't find all of them though) and that didn't work.
Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks!

Your crash is in the SING component. See SING Removal
But first, if you tried to migrate the applications instead of doing a clean install on the new computer, uninstall ID and reinstall. Yhat may take care of the SING problem, along with other stuff you don't yet know is wrong. Adobe apps, and ID in particular do not migrate well.

I moved that folder to my desktop but it is still showing in the SING folder. Should I delete the copy in the Library?
Thank you, Peter.

I missed the second part of your reply. I'm not sure I know where the ID (creastive design) disc is...to do a reinstall. Tough spot I'm in.

Found the CS5 disc!
Should I uninstall all of CS5 or just ID? I'm worried about the actions I've created in photoshop (losing them). Any suggestions?
Thanks again.

You can export the actions, and pretty much any other customizations from any of the apps before you uninstall. For suggestions for ID see Replace Your Preferences. I, personally, would do the whole suite.
If you find after that you still have a problem with SING, go ahead and delete it.

This has worked for me up until the point of copying the preferences folder over to the og user account. Do I need to delete the old preference folder? and is there some way to manually set ID to access this "new" preference folder? do I have to do anything as far as "showing hidden folders?"
Thanks!
