    Problems with guides

    bigmanfontu Community Member

When I start a new composition in Photoshop CS6, I can choose the preset of "Film & Video" then use "NTSC DV Widescreen" for the size.  Then when I go to View > Show > Guides, I can select it and the guides will popup in accordance with the safe areas of a DVD widescreen menu.

But if I open an image that is 4:3, then I change the pixel aspect ratio to widescreen, the option for guides is greyed out.  Is there anyway to add the default guides used with NTSC DV widescreen compositions to any image I open?

      Thanks.

Do you still have "Rulers" turned on? If so Comand+ on a mac Control+ on a PC should bring the guides back.

You could also setup an action to put guides in automaticlly. What I do if I have to do a lot of things is to get my guides up with a New>Film/Video then while the guides are there I make a 1px line where ever there is a guide for safe zone. Each on its own layer then lock those layers save that file, then you have your template with guides you can't move. It's some work to setup but once there your golden. Just don't forget to turn off the guides group/layers before saving.

Well with rulers on, pressing Control + just zooms in.  No guides come up
