Franz Leu Mar 15, 2012 2:17 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)The printing slider really is for printing only, and units are different. If you use PV2010 you can use the sliders as before. However, you want get used to the much better PV2012.
Read this for some more info to the new PV2012: http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/03/what-happened-to-fill-light-and-recovery.h tml

web-weaver Mar 15, 2012 4:36 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)You wrote: "In LR3 I increased Br by 30 units in the Develop Module to get my prints to match my monitor."
That is a clear indication that your monitor is set too bright. If you want to match your prints with what you see on the monitor, you have to
a) calibrate your monitor so that the colors display correctly, and
b) irrespective what brightness your calibration software recommends, set the brightness of your monitor to about 110 cd/m2.
Setting your monitor's brightness correctly is far better than adjusting the brightness in the Print Module by trial and error.

4. Re: Printing Module Brightness Slider Question
EricBier Mar 15, 2012 5:03 PM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)In his LR4 course, Matt Kloskowski of Kelby Training said that the brightness slider in the Print Module should be used to make experimental prints with several brightness settings. When you find one that you like, set the brightness slider at that setting, and future prints should be the brightness you expect. I believe that one use of the slider is to give you the flexibility to set your monitor to the brightness your prefer, but still be able to get prints to match what you see on the screen. Of course, it is recommended that you calibrate your monitor for proper color. It will also be necessary to adjust the brightness setting if your montior brightness changes.

web-weaver Mar 15, 2012 5:10 PM (in response to EricBier)Well, yes ...
I guess Adobe put these sliders in because not everybody has a calibrated monitor set at the optimal brightness.
But making experimental prints on rather expensive photo paper would not be my cup of tea.

bryn_f May 2, 2013 8:24 AM (in response to Matthew A Kraus)I find this useful for certain papers (even though I have a calibrated monitor).
I'm wondering what the equivalent adjustment of say +20 brightness in the print module is in photoshop?
