How can I install Flash Player 11.7 on my Mac?

I've been trying to install Adobe Flash Player 11.7. on my Mac for months. Finally, today I decided to "take the bull by the horns" and have spent several hours trying to get to the bottom of the problem -- to no avail. I've followed every support directive on Google, on Mac Support, and on Adobe Support and Forums (so difficult to use, by the way). Now my computer has NO Flash Player; I've uninstalled it as directed in one step of the process.

I'm running a MacBook Pro, OS X, 10.6.8

My browser is Mozilla Firefox

Well, what is the problem - do you get any error messages?  What exactly happens when you try to install?

I don't know what the problem is, i.e, why it is not downloading. I get this dropdown:

I imported the screen shot into iPhoto, then sent an e-mail containing the image from iPhoto. I sent it to the e-mail address as a reply to the e-mail notice to me; I didn't sent it through the forum, because I'm not able to copy and paste it, nor drag it into my reply forum page. This is the e-mail I've been sending it to: jive-1604812995-177y6-2-34qh9@mail.forums.adobe.com

This is a description of the screen shot: it's a black drop-down with a blue installation bar that stops at 18% (or on subseqent attempts, 16%, 5%...). Within the installation progress bar there is text that says the installation failed. Below that bar, there's a red triangle with an exclamation  point in it (!), and the text says "This installation failed. Get support".

When I've followed the support suggestions, none of them results in an installation. I've read in the forums that there are other people who are having this same problem. What have you been telling them to do?

I've made another attempt to download the screen shot:

Message was edited by: tottieirene I see it didn't work again. Each time the shot shows up in the message I send; it just doesn't get through to you for some reason...)

Images cannot be sent to the forum via email; they must be attached in the forum editor using the camera icon.

What I was trying to elicit from you is that information; the screenshot that you already had.  With this information perhaps some of the Mac specialists here at the forum will be able to help you.

One thing to try is this installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_player_11_osx.d...

Thanks, Pat, but this is the drop-down I got with the link to the installer that you just sent -- still failure. (Did you get the screen shot this time, I hope?)

Thank you; the screenshot came through this time.

Sorry that the full installer did not work as well.  Hopefully some Adobe staff can tell you where to find the install logs on a Mac.

Thank you. I received this message from Chris :

"If you still have Flash Player installation issues please feel free to post here

but I haven't received any solutions to my problem.

Let's try these steps:

1. Download this uninstaller: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg

2, Download this installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_player_11_osx.d...

3. Reboot your system

4. Run the uninstaller that you downloaded in step 1

5. After completion, verify that all "flash" related files have been removed from your /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder

6. Run the installer downloaded in step 2.

If you still fail to install, please post back with your installer log.

Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on the Macintosh?

Thank you. Chris Campbell asked for the log; maybe I'll hear from him.

I've asked someone from the installer team to take a look at your log, it looks to me like we might be running into a permission issue.  First thing I'd try is to fix permssions using Apple's Disk Utility.

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452

If that doesn't help, the next thing I'd try is to force the installer to run at the highest permission level.  You can do that using these steps:

1. Download and mount the installer from: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac/install_flash_player_11_osx.d...

2. Start the Terminal application in your /Applications/Utilities folder

3. type: cd /Volumes/Flash\ Player/Install\ Adobe\ Flash\ Player.app/Contents/MacOS   (please note that the slash direction is important)

4. type: sudo ./Adobe\ Flash\ Player\ Install\ Manager

You'll be prompted for your password and then the installer should start up.  If you are unfamilar with Terminal or run into problems please send email to ccampbel@adobe.com and we can setup a quick desktop sharing session so I can take a look at what's going on.
