I have been trying unsuccessfuly to install Flash Player 11.  It goes about 50% of the way and then tells me I need to turn off Internet Explorer in order to complete download.  What???  Internet Explorer is my browser so how else am I supposed to be on the internet and get the update?  I even tried the help suggestion about making sure scripting is enabled, and it is.  I also tried turning off my Norton firewall to see if that helped but no luck.  Please help, this is getting increasingly more aggravating!!!!!  Thanks!   I am using Windows 7.

Go to the download site and instead of clicking on "run", click on "save".  The installer will download onto your computer.  Clear all your caches, i.e. temp, %temp% and prefetch.  Restart your computer.  Click on the downloaded installer and see what happens.

Clearing the Prefetch folder seriously is not a good idea!

Clearing the prefetch folder may, and I stress the word may, cause the first time you restart your machine to be a second or two slower as the system replenishes the necessary files in the cache.  After that, it will return to your original processing speed.  The advantage is that you're getting rid of unnecessary files that accumulate in the prefetch cache over time.  I suggest you realize what you're talking about prior to making erroneous statements.

Whatever the effects are of clearing the Prefetch cache has nothing to do with the original question: how to end iexplore.exe process running in the background.
