1. Re: "Capture Device Offline" message when attempting to add additional clips from HDV Videocamera,in CS5
joe bloe premiere May 8, 2013 6:40 AM (in response to Bob Dix Photographer)Have you ever tried using HDVSplit?
Free, simple to use utility for HDV capture.
No installation, just unzip and run.

Of course, this does not directly address the trouble
you are having with HDV capture within Premiere.
There are a few things you can try to get it working in Pr...
Can't capture DV, HDV video | Premiere Pro CS4, CS5, CS5.5
http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/cant-capture-dv-hdv-video.html
I always use HDVSplit instead of Premiere, primarily because
of Premiere's inability to display HDV video as it is being captured.

Bob Dix Photographer May 8, 2013 7:00 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Hi Joe,
Thanks for the advice but, the splitter may not help here, now Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 12 which we also use for less complicated editing is now saying Canon HDV Camcorder is also "OFF LINE"
I think it is a physical connection issue either with the cable , the output from the camera or input into the laptop, because it was working. The issue has been intermittent making it difficilt to diagnose. We use it only for back up as we are overseas and do not have access to our main computer. The tapes are good and the video is high quality so I will have to wait worse luck, and the technical back up for HDV in Belgium is non existent as they have no computers in the stores that have the Firewire or I33394 card.
I have not changed any settings, I may have to wait till I get back to base in 10 days, I am also having an issue with a lens on the Canon 5 D Mark II, which I know must go back to Service but, it still works and, has issues after I dropped it ??????????

joe bloe premiere May 8, 2013 7:02 AM (in response to Bob Dix Photographer)Have you tried "Solution 6" from the above troubleshooting link?
(Set IEEE 1394 controller to "Legacy")
Also, there is no negative consequence to trying HDVSplit...
it just might work for you.

Bob Dix Photographer May 8, 2013 7:59 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)IEEE 1394 controller to "Legacy" did not work 6 months ago, the system worked without it.
Joe,
I think I will wait till I get back as the Dell T5500 never needed it back in the studio and is a Server type of animal which has been faultless. I will check to see if the issue arrises when I connect the HV20 to it, if it works you are right the video card is fried.
Thnkas for your assistance, I will let you know what happens in 10 days ?

Ann Bens May 11, 2013 12:38 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Test the camera on a different computer, just to see if windows recognizes the camera.
If not the firewire on the camera side is probably broken.

8. Re: "Capture Device Offline" message when attempting to add additional clips from HDV Videocamera,in CS5
SAFEHARBOR11 May 11, 2013 7:20 AM (in response to Ann Bens)HDV cameras also work as DV cameras. Depending how things are set up in the camera menu, the computer will "see" the camera as EITHER DV or HDV. If trying to capture HDV, and camera is connected as DV, then the device would be "offline". When you power on the camera, what does the computer say has been connected?
Check in the camera menu for "VTR" or "VCR" and rather than "Auto"' select "HDV", then power off camera, then turn on again so that PC properly sees the device as HDV.
Hope this helps

Bob Dix Photographer May 13, 2013 6:58 AM (in response to SAFEHARBOR11)Jeff,
It is definitely HDV and it will not Export to Blu-ray either, the cable is stuffed or the Firewire Video Card ;which has happened before with the studio computer, luckily I mainly use the Canon 5D MarkII but, I dropped the camera and it stuffed up the aperture and focusing at certain Zoom lenghts on the FD IS Lens at 28 to say 45mm and 125mm to 135mm where it shows some vignetting otherwise the video and images are spot on , and I did not bring another lens ,never again.
It will go to Canon Service as soon as I get back.
I was looking for an easy way out of both issues.
Thanks for your interest..

Bob Dix Photographer Jun 27, 2013 3:57 PM (in response to SAFEHARBOR11)Jeff,
I am now back at base. Checked the anamorphic HDV on the Studio Server and it was a crook , tired cable, from the M6600, like me after being held 6 hours in an airport in China.
Replaced the cable and all is well.
Thanks to you all who tried to assist.
Bob
