Flash player out of date - bogus message or ???

I have been recieving a message that my flash player is out of date and need updating. This occurs while I am using the internet and stalls progress with a 5 second timer, at which time i can select to "continue on to the site". Any information about this? is this a virus or other malware?

You can check the version of Flash Player you have from : http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html

If it's not the latest version you can download it from : http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
