1. Re: Photoshop CC doesn't have "preserve details" resampling option available?
Noel Carboni May 15, 2013 2:40 PM (in response to Shinobi-son HSC)Version 14.0 will have the feature, and you'll be able to get it on June 17.
Where are you seeing this?

conroy May 15, 2013 2:45 PM (in response to Shinobi-son HSC)"Preserve Details" sounds like something new in the Ps CC which will be available in about a month. Where are you seeing "all these people"? In Adobe videos and screenshots?
Edit: Noel beats me to it.

3. Re: Photoshop CC doesn't have "preserve details" resampling option available?
Noel Carboni May 15, 2013 2:50 PM (in response to conroy)It's going to be a nice tool for folks like me who like to upsample as part of their workflow.
Whenever I assemble data into mosaics of astroimagery, for example, I generally do it at 200% of original size, which allows sub-pixel level alignment of the multiple images.

conroy May 15, 2013 2:55 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)Sounds like a more sensible and useful alternative to "Bicubic Smoother" upsampling.

5. Re: Photoshop CC doesn't have "preserve details" resampling option available?
Noel Carboni May 15, 2013 3:15 PM (in response to conroy)It is, and it does work a treat. I see this as one of the most significant new features of Photoshop CC.
An example...
Original image:
Upsample of a small part of the above using plain old Bicubic (as has been in Photoshop for ages):
Upsample of the same part of the image using the new Preserve Details (enlargement) resampling method:

conroy May 15, 2013 3:23 PM (in response to Noel Carboni)That is impressive! Will you be discarding the fractal upsampler or will it still be useful for certain tasks?

7. Re: Photoshop CC doesn't have "preserve details" resampling option available?
Noel Carboni May 15, 2013 3:27 PM (in response to conroy)As you have probably guessed, I have access to a copy prior to the release, and I've been cleared to show off the new features.
This new upsampling feature also has a quite good noise reduction capability integrated into the upsampling process as well.
Note, for example this progression. The first screenshot shows a "Nearest Neighbor" preview, because I have the mouse button clicked on the preview, while the second and third show previews of how the upsampled result will look with no noise reduction, and with quite a lot of noise reduction, respectively...
Nearest Neighbor preview of upsampled data, with mouse clicked down on the preview area:
Preserve Details upsample with 0% noise reduction:
Preserve Details upsample with a fairly large percentage noise reduction dialed-in:

That's a very astute question, conroy.
I have actually put a LOT of effort into trying to answer that. The results ARE a little different, but I can't honestly say one is better than the other. As I personally already have a license for Perfect Resize, of course I will keep it in my toolbox. This may mean that if you've considered getting a 3rd party upsampling tool that you'll want to evaluate this new feature first, as Photoshop now does the job quite admirably.
I will have a new upsampling-based sharpening product that'll make use of this new upsampling method.
