tfi productions 44 May 17, 2013 10:53 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)hello, the below statement is kind of what i'm worried about
i buy cs6 and all %$%^#!@@# breaks loose and i shoot myself in both feet
I said before......due to unsolved bugs INTRODUCED in CS6...I STOPPED purchasing new versions!! They STILL have NOT fixed these bugs,BUT, have had the GALL to announce that these bugs ARE FIXED in the new C Cloud version !!! How about an UPDATE with that repair to CS6 users to fix these bugs !!!!! They bought a product in GOOD FAITH and expect that product to be FREE OF DEFECTS !!!!! can anyone comment on unsolved bugs 'introduced' in cs6 PPRO please...
thanks, j

2. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Stephen_Spider May 17, 2013 11:59 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)CS5x works pretty well with of AVCHD.
Negatives :
1) I don't like that they removed the jog and shuttle from source and program monitors.
2) The 3-way color corrector was neutered.
3) Superfluous controls and name changes
Positives:
1&2&3) Prelude & SpeedGrade. Audition instead of SoundPoop.
4) Global Monitor settings.
5) More GPU accelerated fx and transitions.
6) Improved AME CS6 and Dynamic link integration
7) Improved multicamera function.8) Image stabilization added to Premiere - Warp Stabilizer.
I typically reccomend sticking with CS 5X because I am really pissed about the 1st 2 negative issues.

3. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Stephen_Spider May 17, 2013 11:21 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)Well, they had a long issue with Cannon XF and XDcam codec playback with footage that worked just fine in CS 5x. It took about 5 months to patch that. It was ridiculous that such a crucial bug took so long to address.
Other users are complaining AVCHD issues that still haven't been fixed yet. I haven't used a wide variety of AVCHD with CS6 so I can't verify.

tfi productions 44 May 17, 2013 11:42 PM (in response to Stephen_Spider)hello Stephen,
i recall issues with warp stabilizer, did a search on warp stabilizer issues and found this thread
of the top 15 fixes for cs6.5/cs7
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1179004?start=0&tstart=0
wow...i'm going through them now
cheers, j
edit: reading through some of it: i see you've posted in it...

5. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
tfi productions 44 May 17, 2013 11:59 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)hello,
in the above mentioned thread re: 15 top issues with cs6 a staff member says the multicam bug got fixed/will be fixed...
was/is this fixed in the PPRO 6.03 update please?
cheers, j

6. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
John T Smith May 18, 2013 7:19 AM (in response to tfi productions 44)No, the AVCHD bug was not fixed in 6.0.3
It was fixed in the Cloud version, due out in June
It MAY still be fixed in CS6, but there is no PROMISE that will happen
Buy CS6 if it has the features you want, but do NOT count on the AVCHD spanned clips bug being fixed... it may be, but there is no promise
Someone in another forum posted an Adobe link to buy CS6 products... I think these are download only, so write backups to DVD as soon as you download... for an upgrade, click to BUY a product and then change FULL to UPGRADE in the buy window

7. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
tfi productions 44 May 18, 2013 7:28 AM (in response to John T Smith)hello John,
this may sound stupid: was/is the avchd spanned clips bug in PPRO cs5.0 (5.03)?
i do not used spanned clips so i never had to chance to run into this grizzly issue...
thank you, j

8. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
tfi productions 44 May 18, 2013 7:41 AM (in response to tfi productions 44)hello,
is there any possible way to update from 5.03 to 5.5 ???
thus avoiding the avchd spanned clip issue
and i believe that x264pro works with cs5.5 (and cs6)
thanks, j

9. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
John T Smith May 18, 2013 8:15 AM (in response to tfi productions 44)Go back and re-read the 1st line in message #2
No, you may not update to version 5.5
Your only option is to try and find a boxed version at a retailer... but that is doubtful, this long after CS6 was released
I would NOT buy from eBay... too many fakes

10. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Steven L. Gotz May 18, 2013 8:45 AM (in response to John T Smith)I do not have any spanned clips. In fact, I am not sure what my camera does exactly when it stops recording to one file and starts another. I have never shot more than a few minutes of video at a time.
Could somebody please direct me to the most succinct explanation of this bug and its symptoms.
Using Google comes up with so many posts that I have had trouble finding one that really explains it well.
Thanks.

13. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Steven L. Gotz May 18, 2013 12:03 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Ah. OK.
So, more questions.
If you do not create spanned clips, does it matter how you copy the video over? Or does it only matter if you have spanned clips?
-
14. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
joe bloe premiere May 18, 2013 12:34 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)If you do not create spanned clips, does it matter how you copy the video over?
Yes.
As I understand it, the folder structure contains metadata that not only
links spanned clips, but also links audio to video, and contains other
pertinent information as recorded by the camera like timecode.
Camera metadata likely differs with the camera used.
I don't think there is a firmly established protocol that all
manufacturers universally employ (that would be too simple)..
My rule of thumb, never discard the metadata.

15. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
tfi productions 44 May 18, 2013 12:40 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)hello, @ joe bloe premiere
could throw in some sense on upgrading from cs5.03 production premium to cs6 production premium boxed version
i only use avchd (canon hfs20 vixia cameras) however, seldom long clips
(if/when i do use long clips i could always reuse 5.03)
it's a bummer that cs6 bugs are being fixed only in the cloud subscription
cheers, j

16. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
JSS1138 May 18, 2013 12:43 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)does it only matter if you have spanned clips?
The bug in CS6 only affects some spanned media, but you should always copy the entire card to your hard drive and leave it intact and unaltered, whatever format the camera shoots in.
If you have reasonable confidence that you won't be bothered by the spanned clips bug, either because you rarely or never shoot takes longer than 20 minutes, or because your camera isn't affected (not all are), then I'd say just go for the upgrade. CS6 is miles ahead of even 5.5. I consider it the single largest improvement to the suite since it was introduced.

joe bloe premiere May 18, 2013 6:36 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)You can download a trial of CS6 and see if it is better for you:

I keep CS5.0.3 and CS6.0.3 installed together in case I need to
flip any problematic AVCHD files in CS5 before editing in CS6.

18. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Steven L. Gotz May 18, 2013 1:17 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)OK. Then my questions are answered. My camera appears to be unaffected, and I now understand more about the problem. Thanks for catching me up on the issue.

19. Re: Should i buy cs6 PPRO vs PPRO 5.03 please?
Biggles Lamb May 18, 2013 2:53 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)I video in AVCHD and copy the whole of the SD card into its own directory in my working hard drive thus maintaining the card directory structure and file locations.
I inadvertantly shot a continuous 40 minutes take and had problems editing it with it in CS5.5
Some camcorders have a utility on the support disc that copies the files on the card to the specified location and it stiches the spanned file.
Not tried this myself as the camcorder concerned did not come with said function
In answer to your earlier question about upgrading to CS5.5, I am using CS5.5 and found it rock steady with AVCHD including MOV from my Canon 7D.
In the UK CS5.5 upgrade is still available from earlier versions via agents, I have just checked with the company where I got Edius from and they still have 5.5 available.

tfi productions 44 May 18, 2013 6:06 PM (in response to Biggles Lamb)hello, @ Biggles Lamb:
can you send me a link to the 5.5 upgrades in the UK as a backup plan
my plan is to download the cs6 trial and run some long clips through it
i have a 2 hour long graduation clip that was 'split' into clips
this will be a great test...

Is where I got upgrades from, they have been in the business of building editing systems and all that go with them for over 20 years. They are also about 3/4 hour away from where I live.
Is a UK based company selling software for students so it gives you an idea of cost

thanks for the links i'm checking them out
that would be funny to order software from the uk
1.) can anyone comment on the stability of PPRO cs6 linking to Encore 64bit cs6?
in cs5.03 bluray renders were always being retranscoded by Encore
and you couldn't do 2 pass vbr bluray (might be an AME thingthing)
(and this is why i want cs5.5 or cs6 to use x264pro plugin)
2.) comments on PPRO cs6 linking to Audition cs6 please?
3.) comments on PPRO cs6 linking to AE cs6 please? (especially 3d material if possible)?
i plan on getting the cs6 trial but still am looking for feedback from existing users
thanks again for your help,
j
