1. Re: Lagging response of AVC-I and AVCHD Footage on Time-Line
JSS1138 May 21, 2013 11:33 AM (in response to jamesp2)I am seeing similar behavior of my 12 GOP media, but curiously I see drastically improved performance with I-frame AVC media, which is not technically AVC-I (it actually has a higher bitrate, with audio in the same file as video).
Next week I'll be able to test genuine AVC-I media.

3. Re: Lagging response of AVC-I and AVCHD Footage on Time-Line
tfi productions 44 May 21, 2013 1:23 PM (in response to jamesp2)hello,
this problem has me very worried about updating to cs6 PPRO
on top of the spanned clip issue with avchd
this is TWO serious problems with avchd that ARE working in 5.03 and 5.5 but
now have been broken in cs6...
two questions: have any PPRO users been tinkering with the code of cs6?
are there any users RESPONSIBLE for breaking what once was working?
i still don't understand how adobe can break something and not fix what they broke...
as an aside: @ Kevin Monahan: it looks like you had a great time at the Z fest...i got a joy ride in a 280zx
back in the early 80's when the company was datsun...very cool
cheers, j

Thrill Media May 21, 2013 2:17 PM (in response to tfi productions 44)If you don't "HAVE" to have CS6 right now and are slammed with projects, then I would wait and see if they fix it in the next release. I use a quite a bit of AVCHD and it is much less responsive in CS6 than it was in CS5. We have had several updates and it is still an issue... hoping Adobe makes it right.

tfi productions 44 May 21, 2013 2:24 PM (in response to Thrill Media)hello @ Thrill Media:
thanks for the advice...
the more i read about issues with cs6 and avchd the more i want to start the 5.03 club
i guess my new choice is to see about finding/updating to an academic licensed boxed version of 5.5
because i would really like to use x264pro by rallymax
is Encore 64bit any faster/better than 5.5?
talk to you soon, j

Thrill Media May 22, 2013 6:17 AM (in response to tfi productions 44)I haven't noticed any measurable difference in Encore, it seems about the same but someone else may have a better answer than I because I do much less disc creation now than I used to.

jamesp2 May 24, 2013 9:56 AM (in response to jamesp2)I'm boosting this post one last time, in the hope of getting more pile-on, for Adobe's benefit -- with so much AVCHD/AVI-I footage around, thanks to DSLRs, it's hard to account for the apparent lack of interest in the poor performance of that footage on CS6 (and on a high-end machine).
But I tried.....

joe bloe premiere May 24, 2013 10:07 AM (in response to jamesp2)Hey, jamesp2.
Do you own a camera that creates spanned media files
that are relinked in Premiere using the accompanying metadata?
Is this the circumstance when you see the lag?
Does the lag you experience mirror the performance problem
depicted in the video in post #42 of this thread?

Thanks!

9. Re: Lagging response of AVC-I and AVCHD Footage on Time-Line
jamesp2 May 24, 2013 10:22 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Joe Bloe,
This problem is unrelated to the spanned clip issue. It happens regardless of clip length -- just moving rapidly from one to cut to another, using the up or down key, causes the system to bog down, even if the source clips aren't more than few seconds. It's like editing DV 10 years ago, on a machine which wasn't up to it in the first place.
I haven't seen the jumping around thing noted in the video, but I haven't done much sustained work with the format.

Do you know the camera model and media type that gives you trouble?
