How can I update my flash player without being diverted to the issues screen?

I am not clear on what you refer to as "Issues screen" here.

Also you have not provided your OS and browser info.

However, if you use Windows, can you check out this document to start with: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html? If you use Mac, there is a link for Mac issues on the same page.
