Bookmark problems in acrobat XI pro

I have added new bookmarks to a document and after saving, the bookmarks have disappeared when the document is re-opened, in both acrobat and reader.  Now if I put the new bookmarks below the previous ones, it is fine, but then they will be in the wrong order. I tried editing the original bookmarks to change the order, but that doesn't work either.  This is really frustrating and I have to complete this document today.  Any help would be sincerely appreciated, thanks.  This is on windows 7 machine.  Just to add, the pages for which the bookmarks won't stick, were made in pages on a mac and exported as pdf.  The pages for which the bookmarks work were created in open office calc and exported as pdf.  This is the only difference between the different sections in the document.

Is it possible to post your file some place for us to look at? It is not clear what the issue is. Just how did you create the bookmarks -- in Acrobat or the other programs?

Hi Bill, unfortunately the document is confidential so I can't share it.  I created the bookmarks in the acrobat bookmark panel by clicking the new bookmark icon.  The problem occurs when I move the new bookmark above the original bookmarks.  Bizarre.  Thanks for your input.

Well I haven't found a fix, but I'm reasonably sure this issue has arisen because I combined pdf documents from two different sources - 1.  Open office calc on windows 7 and  2.  Pages on Mac OS X lion.  Not sure why, but that is the only difference.  Will post this as a separate issue, as in-document links are also effected by this distinction.  So not all pdf documents are created equally...   After spending an hour solving the green "signature detected where none exist" bar this morning, this latest fiasco has not left me too impressed with adobe.  But that's tech folks...
