Problems when combining pdf docs from different sources

I posted this earlier regarding problems I was having with bookmarks disappearing Bookmark problems in acrobat XI pro    I have done some tests and it appears the problem lies with combining pdf docs from two different sources.  1.  Open office calc on windows 7  2.  Pages on Mac OS X lion.

      1.  Bookmarks - Created in acrobat bookmarks panel

The original bookmarks were set up for the win 7 calc part of the doc.  When bookmarks were added for the mac part of the document and moved above the win 7 bookmarks in the boomarks pane, they disappeared after the doc was saved, closed and then re-opened.  Same result in both acrobat XI pro and reader.

I haven't resolved this and just abandoned the bookmarks as the document had to be ready today.

      2.  In-document links copy paste issue

Copying in-document links (linking to other pages within the doc) from the win 7 part of the doc to the mac part also didn't work and the links had to be done from scratch in the mac bit.

So I must conlude that there are compatibility issues with pdf documents created in different systems being combined.

The document is finished and gone now, with incomplete bookmarks, but it would be great to hear from anyone who has experienced this and maybe knows a way around it for next time and of course for others experiencing the same.

      Thanks

Without seeing the documents it's not really possible to diagnose what the issue might be.  You can try running Preflight on your documents to see if they meet the specification or have problems that Preflight can find.  It may not find all of them.   The best way to make sure that you have document links that work is to do the combining on a single platform and then build your bookmarks from there.   Acrobat has some great abilities but there are several third party plug-ins that add bookmark features (i.e. Evermap Autobookmark ) that Acrobat doesn't have so you can look for things like that to aid you in buiding a complex bookmarked document.  Good luck!
