    Google Analytics in BusinessCatalyst

There is already a thread with a similar issue on the forum, and I posted my specific question there in December, but I did not receive an explanation, so I figured I would start a new thread.

I have a site that I migrated to BC from another CMS, but I kept the same Google Analytics tracking code. Since I launched the BC site, my reported visits have dropped by half in GA. The BC report was showing me stats that were more consistent with my GA reports prior to BC implementation. I understand that different analytics engines have different methods of reporting, so I can understand that there will be differences between GA and BC. But why would my GA display such a drasticly different report in BC than in the other CMS?

Link to screenshot of GA graph showing the dip in visits after implementing site in BC.

      Thanks,

Incorect 301 redirects of pages, crawl errors etc will be in play. When you create new sites or migrate sites that will have different url structures etc it is important to create those 301 redirects etc.

This is just one factor that can cuse this. People hitting a 404 page vs going to a page and navigating through the site.

            Liam,

Thank you for your reply. I took the 301 redirects and into consideration; however, there is still the point that BC's current stats are consistent with my stats from the previous CMS using GA. It has been a few months since this post and my stats in GA are still about half what the BC Report is showing and what my GA stats were showing in my former CMS. Also, regarding 404 pages - our site is a Water District site, so we have the same people coming to the site consistently from month to month looking for the same - but updated - material. Even if they were to encounter a 404 page, they woudn't necessarily leave the site, but rather continue through the navigation until they found what they were looking for. So I wouldn't think that our visits would cut in half and stay that way.

Do you think this will change with the migration to AWS?

            Thanks,

BC are already aware of this and are well under way into their investigations and solution development.
