VickiAlton Jun 8, 2013 6:08 PM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks for your help. I have to work at this. I have a client who has a video catalogue who is changing everything for distributions to Amazon. This is all new to me, I need to take the DVDs that are all standard def and make them MPEG2 to Amazon's specs. I edit in Final Cut and have tried the Adobe because I was told they could candle a VOB file direct. This is true, but the files drop a few frames when they are butt together.
I did try my wondershare - VOB to MPEG2, but there were missing frames also.
I am beginning to think that the only way is to rip the DVD and change to MPEG2 and pray they are the right specs.

JSS1138 Jun 9, 2013 8:50 AM (in response to VickiAlton)Your client would be better served making the Amazon copies from original media, not a DVD.

6. Re: VOB problem
VickiAlton Jun 9, 2013 9:10 AM (in response to JSS1138)I know that the it would be better from the original, and told the client. He can not re-edit 1000 programs, too cost prohibited.

John T Smith Jun 9, 2013 10:21 AM (in response to VickiAlton)>too cost prohibited
Well, do tell your client that there WILL be a quality drop... using a highly compressed file (VOB) to then create a new compressed file (MPG) will mean a 2 generation loss of quality... since PPro does not do "smart rendering" to keep the original VOB's quality

I've attached the spec sheet for Amazon. I am told that we need to use MPGE2. All help is appreciated.
thanks

John T Smith Jun 9, 2013 5:51 PM (in response to VickiAlton)Something else to try... rename a VOB file to MPG and see if that works

VickiAlton Jun 10, 2013 6:28 AM (in response to John T Smith)OK, short of re-editing the programs, is there any other way not to sacrifice so much loss.

12. Re: VOB problem
JSS1138 Jun 10, 2013 6:30 AM (in response to VickiAlton)You don't have to reedit the programs, just go back to the project and reexport at the desired specs.

jdmack01 Jun 10, 2013 12:46 PM (in response to VickiAlton)Based on my own experience, there's no way to import consecutive .vob files into Premiere and not be missing frames (maybe this will be improves in CC?) I use Cinematize (www.miriazon.com) to convert the DVD to a Quicktime file first before importing it to Premiere.
If you go this route, know that Cinematize works much faster if you copy the video_ts directory to your hard drive first and convert from there, rather than converting directly from the DVD in your DVD drive.

Stan Jones Jun 10, 2013 1:06 PM (in response to VickiAlton)I have a client who has a video catalogue who is changing everything for distributions to Amazon.
I realize in lurking along, that I don't know whether this is a catalogue of videos (i.e. the product is selling videos - previously on DVD, soon to be as downloads) or a "video catalogue" (the product is not a video; there is a video that presents or demonstrates it).
Part of my question is just curiosity. The practical part is wondering whether each vob is going to be its own video, or whether you need to combine multiple vob's from a disk into one mpeg. So which is it?
Since Premiere is not doing smart rendering, and this does not appear to require editing, I prefer products like VideoReDo to split/rejoin vobs.

VickiAlton Jun 10, 2013 1:43 PM (in response to jdmack01)Faster would be better, I tried that from the disc and it took forever. Will try your idea

17. Re: VOB problem
VickiAlton Jun 10, 2013 1:44 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Each VOB is part of the program, thus the program. They come from 1 DVD. Each DVD is a different program
