    Help With Image Download Problem

I’m having a bit of a problem downloading from a card into Bridge (CS5.1). If anybody has any ideas, I’d love to have them.

I use a SanDisk 32G SDHC card in my D800 camera. I filled the card shooting portraits in connection with an interview. I reloaded the camera with another similar card and put the full card in my card case.

When later I tried to download images from the original card into Bridge’s Photodownloader via the built-in card reader in my MBP Retina, the only thing it would show was a DCIM folder. Nothing in it and no images as usual.  I also tried it with a USB card reader.  Same result.  The second card, however, reads and downloads fine.

I can put the card in question back into the , it will read the images onto the camera screen without problem. So I think this shows that the files are not themselves corrupted; hence I have not panicked….yet.

      What’s going on here?

I get this sometimes. It just normally means that Bridge can't at that moment recognize the card as being there. Try restarting Bridge, or do a refresh in the list of devices (in the 'get photos from' box). Try unplugging the card USB port and reinserting. Can you read the images in Windows file manager when the card is in the card holder?

It is not the best proceedure, but try downloading the pictures to Bridge via the camera.  If it download check the images and make sure they create thumbnails and that each image is the correct size and quality.  It is best to format the card in the camera it will be used in each time.

I am rather old school but in the past one could expect more reliable results using cards that were not the highest capacity, but more in the middle range.

I never like to attach my camera to the PC. We get a lot of power spikes/cuts, and I had a board blow on my PC a few years ago (and so did other people in my area). I've also heard of land-line phones being blown out. I can just see my power company stumping up £2000 for a new 5DM2!

I have not downloaded from the camera directly since 2004 (I understand the risks), but today I did out of desparation, and.....IT WORKED!  But I won't do it again.

But now I can't seem to erase the cards.  Use of Mac's Disk Utility, formatting in-camera, all seem to have no impact.  So.....next project.
