ECBowen Jun 19, 2013 12:45 PM (in response to Jack Banatoni)The 4770k is fine at stock heat wise. If you OC the chip then you will have to make sure the cooling is excellent. Haswell is emitting far more heat than previous chips especially mobile.

Jack Banatoni Jun 19, 2013 1:36 PM (in response to ECBowen)Thanks, Eric. Not overclocking, but do you think I should bump it back down to the 3770K? Sometimes computers are left unattended for rendering. Don't want anything overheating unexpectedly.

ECBowen Jun 19, 2013 1:40 PM (in response to Jack Banatoni)No Haswell is definitely a better choice. If you are not OC'ing then temps are not an issue.

bgalakazam Aug 1, 2013 2:51 PM (in response to ECBowen)If you are not overclocking you can get the 4770. It's cheaper and also has the VT-d and TSX support and some other things. You can also get a $100 range motherboard that way.
... I've never understood overclockers... just get a higher end CPU, faster/bigger SSD, etc... 3.9GHz in turbo and 3.4GHz multi is plenty. Especially for editing, if you want more power might as well buy the 6core 12 thread 3930k or 3960x.
