1. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
KGCW Jun 19, 2013 4:12 PM (in response to Editman2411)QT / ProRes is still working without any issues on our workstations with Premiere CC.
You might have screwed up something related to QT at some point.

2. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Editman2411 Jun 19, 2013 4:18 PM (in response to KGCW)Clicked Download. Clicked Install. CS6 is still working perfectly with all codecs. Didn't screw with anything.

3. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
KGCW Jun 19, 2013 4:18 PM (in response to Editman2411)Take it easy, I wasn't making fun of you.
If that can help, our workstations are on OSX 10.8.4, they still have CS6 installed and they had ProApps QT Codecs v1.0.2 installed at some point (and Compressor too as you need at least one ProApp installed for the Codecs to work).

4. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Editman2411 Jun 19, 2013 4:27 PM (in response to KGCW)Appreciate your help. I am working on 10.8.4 as well... with the same ProApps codecs v1.0.2 from here - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Just finished a massive award feature project using PR/AE CS6 with a ProRes workflow working flawlessy .... but CC is not playing nice on my rig ...at all ...very very perplexing.

6. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Editman2411 Jun 19, 2013 5:21 PM (in response to KGCW)Yea... repaired permissions, trashed prefs ... no dice...
Here's some pictures for reference ...
Notice in this dummy project I have already successfully imported an MP4 file into the project browser (to the right of 'Sequence 01') ... but when I try to pull an MOV file in I get that error dialogue box "The importer reported generic error."
This is a picture of the custom sequence area of CS6 ... notice "QuickTime (Desktop)" option down at the bottom... contrast this with the following picture in CC ... no "QuickTime (Desktop)" option.
And then in After Effects - in the render que when I click on the ouput module to get to format options the "Codec Settings" box is greyed out and codec is listed as "0"

7. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
KGCW Jun 19, 2013 6:18 PM (in response to Editman2411)What the hell ...
I'm afraid I won't be of much help to you. The closest I came to your problem was when I got the "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type" error message. Uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere CS6 solved it for a while. When the issue showed up again I wiped clean the hard drive and reinstalled from a clean ghost.

Editman2411 Jun 19, 2013 7:20 PM (in response to KGCW)Thanks for taking a look and trying to help. I appreciate it.
Seems that this is not necessarily an Adobe problem though, if you are Mac based and having none of these issues. I know Im not alone on this issue though - http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/1038558#1038599Oh well... I've been meaning to give FCP X another look anyway.
Does anyone know if actual ADOBE employees read these boards?

I'll report this issue to the After Effects team. A bug report is definitely helpful: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Thanks for the post,

Johnny_Zet Oct 4, 2013 1:33 AM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Great,
but what to do in terms of Adobe Premiere,
is there any trick to get the mov files activated for Premiere CC ?

13. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Eruditiollc Jan 15, 2014 7:29 AM (in response to Johnny_Zet)I have been having the same issue...not sure if this was ever resolved.
One thing I found that works, if you try to open your file in QT, for me, it converts the file automatically before playing it. After the file converts, save it in QT. Then import that into Premiere and it should work. The only thing I found that doesn't transfer with the new file, is if there are any alpha channels, they do not save those alpha channels.
Hope this helps.

14. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Carpe Diem Craig Jun 4, 2014 1:11 AM (in response to Editman2411)I'm on a PC and have had this issue with Prores before AFTER they had been imported with no problem, and the project worked on for a week with no issues. Then BAM, that notification popped up. I found I could relink some footage items, others had to be copied over from my back up to work. Go figure.
Just now it's giving me the notification again when Im trying to import a QT with Animation which I exported from After Effects last night.
I've had no end of problems with Premiere all week. Im going to go back to CS6 or ditch Premiere all together.
Adobe have really screwed this up.

15. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
wouteralberts Sep 4, 2014 6:14 AM (in response to Editman2411)I seem to be having the same issue with Premiere CC and ProRes (422 or LT) footage from my Blackmagic pocket cinema camera. The solution by Eruditiollc did work for me, but with over 300 shots, it's a time consuming fix. I wish Adobe moderators would look into this? There is no support at all...
I'm on Windows 8.1 (and mac, but on my mac it just works as it should).

16. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
thereelists Sep 13, 2014 9:37 AM (in response to Editman2411)So, i've just got this issue too. Fresh install of PPCC2014 on a new machine, never been used, importing ProresHQ and I can't see a thing.
Installing QT7 Pro hasn't helped - just showing waveforms.
wouteralberts what was the solution for BMPCC you mentioned? Nothing at the link/user you provided.

thereelists Sep 14, 2014 6:45 AM (in response to Peru Bob)Thank you.
I think the reinstall of media encoder, QT7 and reimport of files did the trick.
Does this however mean we are only able to use 4gb of memory, as it's a 32bit, not 64-bit, plugin, or am I confused?

19. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
knappjs Oct 9, 2014 8:54 AM (in response to Editman2411)I'll just throw this out there, should anyone else stumble upon this. I'm plagued with Premiere CC 2014 suddenly not recognizing ProRes files. I've tried everything that I can find: preference & cache deleting, app reinstalling, killing the DVCProOutputThingamajiggy codec, etc.
Some weird tricks that I've found could help (note this is on a Mac):
1. Move the files up one folder level, and relink. I've had weird success occasionally with this. Screws up my organization, however.
2. Change the file name and relink. On a whim, I just changed the name of my file from "MonitorCam-Pt3_ProRes.mov" to "MonitorCam-Pt3-ProRes.mov"...essentially replacing the underscore with a dash. BOOM, clicked in. Why? Only the programming wizards will know.
3. Open files in AE, and bringing them into Premiere that way. Obviously, this doesn't help you with your initial post.

Kevin-Monahan Oct 19, 2014 10:59 AM (in response to knappjs)Thanks Knappjs,
Also check out this article. Though for After Effects, the same applies with Premiere Pro solutions for problems with QuickTime files in After Effects CC (12.0) because of conflict with DVCPROHDVideoOutput Quic…
Quick question, did you happen to update the ProRes codecs as listed in this link? ProApps Codecs v1.0.5
Thanks,

21. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
knappjs Oct 19, 2014 9:48 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Hi Kevin,
Yep, the codecs are updated. I will say that, with the recent slew of updates, the system is much more stable. Phew! Kudos to the team for making the much-needed fixes. -
22. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
El Tiburon Oct 24, 2014 4:59 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)I have Windows 8, 64 Bit running AE/Premier CC and also CC14.
I'm having this terrible .mov "corrupted or not supported" issue. But here's the thing: I have been working on a project for about a week or two (as well as countless others) on the same exact system and importing and using .mov files with no issue whatsover. Now, all of a sudden, this issue is happening.
It was happening in both AE and Premier. But now, for whatever reason, Premier is working fine. But AE is a bust. Both the CC version and the CC14 version. The only thing I have done to my system is do the upgrades via the Adobe Creative Cloud. Do I need to uninstall the older versions of After Effects?
Very very frustrating.

23. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
El Tiburon Oct 24, 2014 5:12 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Here is another bizarre twist: I can import .mov files into AE, AS LONG AS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN IMPORTED BEFORE.
I just imported 3 .mov files into my AE project - no problem. But when I now try to go back and reload or replace the files that are actually in my project, no good. Gives me the standard "corrupted or not supported"

24. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
Kevin-Monahan Oct 24, 2014 5:49 PM (in response to El Tiburon)Hi El Tiburon,
Did you update your project file from 8.0.1 to 8.1 midway thorough the project?
Thanks,
Kevin

AlyTravelsOn Oct 24, 2014 6:47 PM (in response to Editman2411)I'm having a similar issue - kind of. All .mov files or .mp4 files will only import the audio from the clips - no video. Thoughts on fixes?

herbertkleung Nov 12, 2014 2:37 AM (in response to Editman2411)I'm having the same error message "Reported a generic Error.." when I import my XML file from Davinci Resolve. It was working fine before.... somehow it just stop working correctly 2 months ago. Did I do something incorrectly?

27. Re: Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?
christing1988 Dec 1, 2014 2:58 AM (in response to herbertkleung)As long as you have QuickTime installed, Adobe Premiere Pro supports ProRes .mov and most Quicktime codecs natively. If you've have QuickTime installed, but can't get files imported, you can try to get your MOV clips to be transcoded or rewrapped with third-party software before import. Handbrake is one choice. But here I especially recommend you to get a video converter app from brorsoft that comes with the optimal preset for Adobe Premiere Pro, which ensures the best result when working your MOV files in Adobe Premiere CC.

That's nice. The software solves my problems easily. Now, I can start my MOV videos in Adobe premiere workflow without encountering any video&aduio problem. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated.
