taz291819 Jun 20, 2013 3:35 PM (in response to illucine)I'm getting about 60% usage here when exporting to H.264 in HD.

JSS1138 Jun 20, 2013 3:45 PM (in response to illucine)It depends on many factors, so there really is no 'normal'.

MHoecker Jun 20, 2013 4:51 PM (in response to illucine)I've never paid that close of attention to CPU usage per format, but it may just be MPEG-2 vs H.264 encoding. MPEG 2 is a fairly old format now and may just not be as optomized for rendering, and by that I mean it takes more processing power to get all the algorythms for a similar quality video at a similar file size.

4. Re: CPU utilization when rendering
JSS1138 Jun 20, 2013 8:28 PM (in response to MHoecker)No, it ain't that. I get 100% for both exports, circumstances allowing.

5. Re: CPU utilization when rendering
illucine Jun 21, 2013 9:01 AM (in response to JSS1138)Well, my CPU utilization for H.264 is less than 1/4 what it is for MPEG-2. The main timeline of the project I'm rendering is about 1:09 (h:mm) and I can render the DVD video in a little over an hour and a half but the BD video just took 13 1/2 hours (plus 4 more for the other timelines in the project). I would expect HD to take longer than SD but not 8.5X longer. I would say maybe the H.264 codec is not as well-written as the MPEG-2 except Jim says they both work fine for him. Any ideas for getting my computer to work harder (better CPU utilization)?

JSS1138 Jun 21, 2013 11:06 AM (in response to illucine)I do see longer exports for H.264, but you're right, not that much longer. Something is holding it back.
