1. Re: How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?
JSS1138 Jun 21, 2013 8:53 AM (in response to Mark Morreau)Dynamic Link isn't relevant here, anything that get's authored to a DVD or Blu-ray has to be in a compatible format, and F4V just isn't on that list.
Coming out of Premiere Pro, use the appropriate DVD or Blu-ray presets.

2. Re: How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?
Mark Morreau Jun 21, 2013 9:02 AM (in response to JSS1138)Thanks for your answer Jim, but I think I haven't made myself clear. I'm trying to output a .swf, not a DVD or Blu-ray.
When I'm outputting a DVD or a Blu-ray from Encore I can encode the asssets in Premiere or AME exactly how I want them, and if they're compliant I can bring them into Encore and Encore will not transcode them further. It will build the DVD using exactly those assets and not transcode them further.
I want to do exactly the same thing with Flash files to output a .swf.
I may be misunderstanding how a .swf works, but for sure I don't want to go through unnecessary compression steps. Hence my question about what the best format for exporting from Premiere CC is if I can't prevent Encore from recompressing F4V files.

Stan Jones Jun 21, 2013 9:50 AM (in response to Mark Morreau)The Encore to Flash export is what you must be talking about. It does not export a swf, except as it is a small player file. It exports an f4v or flv. Look at the settings and see if it will use your file. I've neve tried that. It does not transcode before the flash export build.

Yes, it is the Encore to Flash export I'm talking about.
What I did was export F4V files from Premiere using one of the presets, no changes at all.
I tried a few variations, as well as varying the default project settings on opening Encore.
I brought these F4Vs Encore, but Encore insisted on transcoding the flash assets when I did the flash export.I think the answer is going to be to bring in a high quality lightly or uncompressed asset and let Encore do its own encoding.

Yes, that is the best way.
I'm intrigued, really just curiosity, as to whether Encore would leave a complete match for its flv/f4v export untouched. You migth examine the flv/f4v file exported by encore and try to match that.

6. Re: How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?
Mark Morreau Jun 22, 2013 12:29 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi Stan,
I've tried my best to see if I can get Encore not to transcode a flash file, but I think that, since there's no flash preset (unlike the DVD and Blu-ray presets), I just can't fool it.
However, here's my workaround: I output the flash file any old way: using the DVD or Blu-ray assets, whatever. And then in the output directory it creates I can replace its created assets (in the sources folder) with my own simply by renaming and replacing my own encoded assets with the ones Encore created for me. There's a visible quality improvement doing it this way, and no unnecessary re-encoding.
Of course this is all a bit old-hat anyhow as we'll be doing it the HTML5 way with some Edge program or another any minute now! But for the moment....
Thanks for your help and suggestions!Cheers
Mark

7. Re: How do I stop Flash assets being transcoded?
Stan Jones Jun 22, 2013 1:53 PM (in response to Mark Morreau)I like your workaround! Unlike a file on DVD (vob's have other stuff in them) or prior to Encore building the vob's, the flv/f4v file in the final Encore to flash, is a final file. All the swf player is looking for is a filename, and it must, of course, match the player parameters - pixel size etc. Most (all?) other stuff such as chapter's etc, are in other files, I think.
