40. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
la_diamond Jun 21, 2013 11:12 AM (in response to Cavemandude)For what it's worth, I did some tests around my problematic area. I re-cut it last night, have open and closed/saved the project at least 10 times. Opened it again this morning, did some test exports and it came out fine.
Obviously I have no idea if this is sustainable for a whole long timeline, but at least it appears to me that if you don't re-record as MarkDLeach pointed out, things to be fine so far. However, he also pointed out that I may be pushing my luck....
I think mark__m's suggestion is a good one, perhaps just duplicate it before you flatten to export in case you need to go back and make any changes...

SMG720 Jun 21, 2013 11:29 AM (in response to la_diamond)Considering the lost productivity and the rework, Adobe needs to jump on this and fix it immediately. Multicam is essentially broken in this release and I agree with the previous poster, it's quite shocking that escaped the efforts of Development and QA.

EckleySP Jun 22, 2013 1:43 PM (in response to Mark Morreau)Are we told what bugs are "fixed" with a bug fix release? In other words, will we know that this issue is fixed before we apply the update? And, can Adobe tell us if the fix will correct the broken sequences we have, or will it just fix the issue going forward?
If the latter, then my sequence will never work and I will either have to try one of the workarounds above, or start over.

45. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
Joseph from Austin Jun 24, 2013 8:26 AM (in response to Max Maximciuc)I too have downloaded the trial of CC several days ago, and was in the process of getting up to speed on multicam editing. I am very experienced in another platform, but thought a change was in order. I could not figure out what I did wrong, when I was seeing video from the beginning of the clips, and audio from where the play head was. Well, seems it's the very same bug. Unfortunately, this was after hours of editing a long two camera shoot.
This morning, I opened up the project, and there was blackness after the last camera switch. Lovely. I did open up a prior auto save, and I was at least back to the broken state I was before. Showing the beginning, when the play head was much farther along. I did scrub the playhead in the viewer as someone else has mentioned here, and it at least seems to be working correctly for the moment.
I do hope they correct this soon. I can't see going to the paid subscription for something that is broken.
Incidentally, the source footage is 1080i AVCHD 24mbps.

e3mw Jun 24, 2013 10:31 AM (in response to Joseph from Austin)I am experiencing this bug too. Every time I save and re-open my project this happens and I lose all of my Multicam edits from both the Multicam Browser and the Timeline, It makes no difference which one I use to create the cuts. This is incredibly frustrating.

47. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
JourneyFilmJB Jun 24, 2013 12:08 PM (in response to e3mw)I just wanted to voice my concern for this bug too. I've encountered it and it significantly reduces the efficacy of using multicam. If I can't make any further cuts to a multicam sequence after the initial pass, it makes it supremely difficult to adjust a sequence for notes or other client's needs. Until this bug is fixed, I'm having to either flatten the sequence after I make the initial cut or drop in the non-nested sequence (which eliminates the ability to use the multicam monitor; which is very frustrating).
I submited a bug request; please Adobe, fix this!

48. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
Joseph from Austin Jun 24, 2013 1:44 PM (in response to Joseph from Austin)Just messing around with this, I found a sort of workaround, that seemed to work for my case. I have a nearly three hour multicam edit in process, and have cut about the first 30 minutes or so. The edit is good to a point just earlier of when I made a change, and reset to zero going forward as described.
I deleted everthing after the last correct event, and then stretched that event to the end. I could now resume multicam switching, and It now looks as it should. I post this mainly in that it might be of help to someone else here.
Being new to Premiere, and in light of this experience, I'll probably go back and redo this particular job in my previous editing app.

49. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
Cavemandude Jun 24, 2013 1:57 PM (in response to Joseph from Austin)I've tried this also but if you have those white "sequence" triangles in the middle of the sequence instead of just the beginning and end and delete a section of them it may not scroll all the way to the end, it gets stuck where one of those triangles was before the end of the sequence.

52. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
cscooper2013 Jun 25, 2013 11:36 AM (in response to MarkDLeach)This multicam bug is by FAR not the only issue I've hit up against in Premiere Pro CC, but it is definitely the most devastating. The other major set piece, for me, was going to be built-in, native audio sync (both when creating Multi-Camera Source Sequences and when Merging Clips). But that does not work 99% of the time—even when performed on the most similar of waveforms.
I'd say make CC free, retroactively to the date we first downloaded it until the date there is a fix and call us your BETA testers! I posted elsewhere about this issue, but then found this forum. What a glaring, show-stopping bug! I don't recall signing up for any public BETA program, and I don't recall any 72pt font warning me of such when I downloaded CC.

Josh from Spokane Jun 25, 2013 7:05 PM (in response to Mark Mapes)You guys have got to fix this. It just cost me so many hours! Maybe you should push out a notification that multi-cam sequences absolutely should not be used in CC until this bug is fixed, so that others aren't similarly screwed.

55. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
icecodepro Jun 26, 2013 8:43 AM (in response to Josh from Spokane)I am using the ProRes422 codec, Mac 10.8.4, Adobe Premiere CC. I experienced this error on the Avid DnXHD on Day one. We edited a 2 hour sequence, saved the work, re-opened and got the triangles 20 minutes into the sequence.
We then used the ProRes422 codec, edited the sequence, all good, made changes in the TimeLine, saved the project, exited the program, powered on the next day, we got the triangles, in the SAME spot.
Total time invested in editing 9 hrs gone, I don't even have CS6 any longer installed as I didn't want any conflicts with software versions. I am not happy over Adobe at this point over this bug. Multi-Cam editing is a requirement of this business. After all the Adobe conferences I attended at NAB 2013, This has been a major disappointment. How can this multicam bug appear in the public release of the software.
The proposed work around didn't work for me, which is edit in the timeline. The triangles didn't appear until after I saved, exited the program.

icecodepro Jun 26, 2013 12:00 PM (in response to ECBowen)I haven't tried opening up any of the auto-save projects. For the time, I have now downgraded back to CS6 and I am now redoing the multicam editing and will have to wait for the next release to bug fix. I now apologize to Apple for bad mouthing them over the FCP X release. The multicam issue then is why I switched to Adobe Premiere 5.5 when that occured. I upgraded to CC for the audio sync when doing multi-cams.

60. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
Josh from Spokane Jun 26, 2013 11:54 AM (in response to icecodepro)I really have to recommend la_diamond's tactic for transferring the placement of your cuts. This way, you don't have to put in all the hard mental work of where and which shot to cut to -- just 10 minutes of mindless keyboard mashing. It's probably the best thing to do in this situation.
Any if you do, one tip / caveat: he says "make sure V2 is highlighted," but I found this wasn't that simple. You need the original track selected for arrow-down to go to the next edit point, but you need the new track selected to do the keyboard shortcut for cut-to-shot-#. So the first thing I did was go through and add markers on the timeline where every cut was, and then I finally went back through, highlighted the new track, and used the next marker shortcut to go to each new edit point. Hope this makes sense.

freshTEA Jun 26, 2013 12:03 PM (in response to ECBowen)So whats the update? Is this something Adobe put in high priority? I really dont understand this way of dealing with customers... Even if people are upset (by right) common sense would be to communicate with your audience and somehow let them know whats going on.. I have heard so many bad things about Adobe's customer support, even if you are really that high up on your horse and can treat you loyal customers this way, is it really an image you want for your company? really?
Come on.. vibe with the cowd Adobe. Even if you screw up, people tend to respons a lot better when they feel heard and understood.

62. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
Joseph from Austin Jun 26, 2013 12:13 PM (in response to freshTEA)It's kind of funny in a way, that the workaround, was very much like what I used to do in another popular editing platform that starts with a V. I was very close to commiting to Premiere CC for a year during my current trial. For now, I had to temorarily switch back to finish my current job. This app is far from bug free either, but multicam does work.
Overall, Adobe makes great products. I was really looking forward to making a change, but I would only consider it now if they extended the trial after the bug is corrected and I had sufficient time to test it. Someome mentioned making Premiere CC a free beta until it's fixed. It would
I must say I am surpsrised that no offical response has been offered yet. Not exactly something that makes me comfortable in switching.

freshTEA Jun 26, 2013 12:28 PM (in response to SteveHoeg)Thank you Steve, Its comforting to hear.
Im not trying to be hard but Adobe is a huge company and can afford people to focus on these areas. Meet the audience and treat your customers good and Adobe will rise even higher..
Do we have any idea on when the update might come..? Are we talking about a week, 3 weeks? Might not be ideal but atleast then people can kind of make a choice of how to tackle this instead of feeling like they are on hold in the dark.
Appreciate that your getting back at us

cscooper2013 Jun 26, 2013 12:30 PM (in response to freshTEA)Tony, I've been thinking alot about this (I've had a lot of time to think, since my NLE crashed). You beat me to the punch, but I agree.
Adobe, PLEASE call a meeting in the next 5 minutes (it's really the MOST pressing issue plaguing your reputation) and figure out what you're going to say about all of this, officially. Let us know when we can expect an update. Even if you said, "We appologize for thinking that rather than face a late release, customers would rather have completely useless software on schedule", or "We appologize for sending out beta software, we APRECIATE those who have visited the forums in an effort to help Adobe and eachother work through our faulty release. For anyone who is willing and able, we would like to call upon the community (retroactively) to join us in our beta test. We will make files available for download in various formats for testing. An upload server will be available to submit your own assets that Premiere has problems with. In exchange, we will offer a free one year subscription to our Creative Cloud suite of apps."
Admit the problem, providing honest visibility into what happened (remember we WANT you to succeed). Offer your understanding and condolenses for our losses. Invite us in to help. Offer your gratitude for your loyal customers and beta testers. Then SHOW your gratitude by doing something in a big way that only the Adobe giant can do.
... or start losing customers to Sony Vegas, Avid, what-have-you.
P.S. I came to Adobe CS4 from Sony Vegas 6. My browser has been open to Amazon.com all day, fighting the urge to pull the trigger and go back to Vegas 12. Though, I really would rather not. To quote every x-girlfriend, ever, "Why can't you just TALK to us!"

freshTEA Jun 26, 2013 1:05 PM (in response to cscooper2013)You know, its funny I remember this story of a huge car company.
This guy turns in his broken car to get it fixed at the car companys repair station. He recivece it a couple of days after and finds out that his ashtray that was in the car is missing.
So he calls back to tell them that he knows for sure that there was an ashtray in the car when he turned it in. The car company of course denide any acknowledgment regarding the situation and that there was nothing else they could do.
The guy hangs up the phone feeling upset and mistreated.
At the end of the day an ashtray is just an ashtray, but this was about the principle!
Not being able to let it go he the next day called another car company (Toyota) and asked them how they would have handled the situation. They said they would have bought him a new one with out questioning.
A week later he recieves a package from Toyota.
This is a true story and it happend more than 10 years ago
That tale is still used in almost EVERY car companys agenda on how to treat customers.
Lets just say Toyota did the right thing... They are a HUGE car company and they have gained soo much fust from this small incident.. It all started with just one ashtray...

70. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
la_diamond Jun 26, 2013 1:49 PM (in response to Josh from Spokane)In regards to the "Make sure V2 is highlighted", if you make sure both V1 and V2 is highlighted, then you can just press the down arrow and it will jump to the next cut in V2. V2 is already cut and you are trying to cut V1, so adding a cut to both works out well. Hope that helps.

LareeDraper Jun 27, 2013 7:56 AM (in response to la_diamond)This happened to me, too. I spent two days trying to figure out what had happened and find a fix for it. I've been editing with Premiere Pro for ten years, and the issue was so strange I couldn't define it well enough to search for the answer!
Bad news from this end, though...this happened outside of multicam edit...sorry, Adobe. Hopefully your multicam fix will fix whatever happened in my timeline too.

MarkDLeach Jun 27, 2013 8:06 AM (in response to LareeDraper)Hey LareeDraper,
Care to go into more detail on how you made this happen outside of multicams? I linked a video earlier showing how to recreate this bug in MC editing. If this can happen elsewhere it would be great to know how you made the bug pop up so we can all avoid it till Adobe finishes beta testing Adobe CC.
-
75. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
LareeDraper Jun 27, 2013 9:25 AM (in response to MarkDLeach)I was afraid someone was going to ask that. I'm not sure I can get to an answer. This was a project I got from another person, a Final Cut guy, who did this in PPro so I could work on it after him. The way he works is different from me -- he cut all the clips from three cameras into a single track, whereas I use multicam for that. My guess, from reading some of the above, is it must have something to do with his in/out settings. I'll ask him, but since this is his first PPro project, he probably won't know.
-
76. Re: Multicam Editing in Premiere CC Issue
MarkDLeach Jun 27, 2013 9:44 AM (in response to LareeDraper)Ah. Well becareful while using CC. You might want to use CS6. Keep in mind all CC owners also own CS6.
If his file doesnt have the issue... You could have him export an XML or another format to import it... Can't use multicam with this method though.
