onefiftymph Jun 24, 2013 7:44 PM (in response to Ann Bens).mp4 - like the original file. Not for DVD - maybe web, desktop viewing, import to Director, whatever.

3. Re: Cropping doesn't affect Output?
Ann Bens Jun 25, 2013 3:11 AM (in response to onefiftymph)Crop effect in the timeline has no effect on the export fi you set that to 720x480.
For mp4 set the resolution in the export settings under width and heigth and make sure you adjust the level.

4. Re: Cropping doesn't affect Output?
onefiftymph Jun 28, 2013 12:25 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Hmm. in Export Settings, Output tab, I dont see any place to adjust output dimension. Dropdowns set to Quicktime Format, and Preset is Custom. Preset lists only 4 NTSC, 2 PAL presets.
thanks for trying to help

7. Re: Cropping doesn't affect Output?
Ann Bens Jun 29, 2013 4:11 AM (in response to onefiftymph)You cannot crop all formats, without ending up with black bars. DV QT is one of them.
mp4 will do what you want.

8. Re: Cropping doesn't affect Output?
onefiftymph Jun 29, 2013 12:44 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Thanks but cropping in on the default MPEG-4 Format (.3gp file) setting changes the Output to 176x144 pixels. What? dont want that.. Maybe you meant H.264 Format - that gives an mp4 file. But cropping in on default H.264 setting, the Output does not change, doesnt even match what the numbers at the crop say (703x352)
Heh... this is pretty unintuitive. I'm guessing it's critical to dial in the Output at the beginning of a project...

10. Re: Cropping doesn't affect Output?
onefiftymph Jun 30, 2013 1:05 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Ok thanks.
Googling why Seq.Settings are grayed, this guy http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/896658 says sequence settings cant be changed once created, so I made a new sequence and pasted the previous in, like he says. Apparently, only "Desktop" Editing Mode allows custom frame sizes, so I used that, something else to figure out. Then I deleted the old sequence.
Now my original .mp4 source file is 640x352 and my new sequence is 640x352. I select the new sequence, go to Export, and STILL the Output Setting is wrong - 720x480
Your Export Settings window is different. I don't have all those options - I'm still in CS4. Under Export Settings Preset - there is no "Custom" option.
