1. Re: what is the difference between 1080i and p and what settings do I use to render 1080i footage?

Rendering is what you do to make the timeline play smoother while editing... I think you mean exporting to a new file
If yes, what do you want to export for... to create a DVD or BluRay... to play on a computer... to upload to a web site...???
The tutorial list in message #3 http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 may help

DanielFilming Jun 26, 2013 10:35 PM (in response to John T Smith)Export yes, not render. Just uploading to youtube. I want the best settings I can get which is why I'm trying to learn this.
Additional question: The footage I record apparently is in 29 fps but when I go to export it my settings put it automatically at 50 fps. Any idea why this is?

Ann Bens Jun 27, 2013 2:18 AM (in response to DanielFilming)1080I means 1920x1080 interlaced.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlaced_video
1080p means 1920x1080 progressive
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_scan
Analyse a clip with Mediainfo and post a screendump of that analyses in tree view to see what actually the framerate is
http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
For Youtube use a preset for Youtube which you will find under H.264 in the export settings.
