When you export to FDF, what it contains is your public key. This does not allow others to sign, only validate a signature that you've signed and use it to encrypt documents for you to open. It's possible to install your digital ID file on more than one machine if that's really what you want to do.
Thank you George. - Yes, I would like to have the digital signature on both my office computer and my home computer as I split the work week in the two places. However, I realize that the signature is unique and have already sent it to the permitting offices and do NOT want to create another one for them to have on file ( but will ofcourse) I would prefer to only have 1 digital signature out there. If there a way to import the one I have already?
What version of Acrobat are you using and what OS? I'm assuming you created your digital identity within Acrobat, is that correct?
Adobe Acrobate Pro XI Version 11.0.3,
Windows XP Pro Version 5.1 Spk 3
Yes, I did create the signature in Acrobat.
OK. What you need to do is find the digital ID file (PFX) and make a copy of it so you can install it on another machine. To do this in Acrobat 11, select:
Edit > Preferences > Signatures > Identities & Trusted Certificates > More
When the "Digital ID and Trusted Certificate Settings" dialog appears, select:
Digital IDs > Digital ID Files
and select the ID that you want. Then select: Certificate Details
in the toolbar to the right. On the Details tab select "Private key" to display the path to the corresponding PFX file. It will be something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\11.0\Security\username2.pfx
Copy this file to a flash drive or otherwise make it available on the other machine. Open the same dialog on the other machine and this time click the "Add ID" and select "My Existing digital ID from: A file". When prompted to select a file, select the one you copied from the first machine. You will need the password.
Thank you for all your time and effort... I will try this as sonn as I get to the home office. Have a great day!
