    Will Edge Reflow be usable?

    signaledesign Community Member

An exciting tool however the Preview version doesn't suggest that it will be a fully fledged tool for mockingup or creating responsive design.

A few of the things I have noticed:

      • The limit of 16 columns creates problems for anything that required more. While the settings can be adjusted and you can play with Gutters and margins, these are a work-around that create other problems.

      • There seem to be a few bugs such as the inability to select the breakpoint + pulldown menu to name and adjust dimensions

      • Setting dimensions for one breakpoint sometimes carry over into other breakpoints automatically. I understand that you are meant to click the button that appears "Apply property to all regions". It is also limited when attempting to create very realistic rules such text that is 90% wide but not exceeding 400px - it usually coverts the 'size' to different percentage or a px width and carries through various 'properties' into other breakpoints.

      • With changes to an object, it would be useful if multiple properties are changed to apply all changes to all regions, rather than have to click each individual property. Like-wise for a group of object should inherit identical properties.

      * The percentages are not working well. If I set a margin to 10% for example and select a box or text field, why will it then display 9.86% on the object? (the percentage changes slightly when the page is expanded / closed). This also happens on some object sizes.  It is frustrating when object are aligned and are not touched or interferred with by any other settings suddenly lose their global settings and develop individual settings with their own new dimentsions.

      • Alignment is a challenge, If I create a box and drag it to align, the magnetic/snap-to alignment function works however it is never 0%, it is always a fraction such as 0.4% and has to be corrected each time in the properties. And if chaning to pixel dimensions, I have had it change to percentage.

      • Generally the tactile feedback for the application needs to be improved - basic things like hover / mouseover effects that are standard in adobe software.

My primary use currently is mockups however was still interested in reviewing the code with the developers, though will have to hold off on this.

The functionality for viewing breakpoints is good as well as the colour coding though care needs to be taken to avoid accidently deleting - a popup would be good.

          I agree 100.4% with you!

Another thing it needs is a placeholder text (similar to InDesign)...

Thanks signaldesign, this is really solid feedback.

            • Columns: adding this to our backlog to go over 16.
            • Breakpoint select/edit: we're aware we need to surface and make breakpoints easier to edit, its already on our backlog!
            • Carried over breakpoint properties: Looking into this as a possible bug
            • Object wide Apply to all regions: We've got this on our backlog already too!
            • Percentage values: We've seen a couple bugs like this with percentage values and rounding issues. The teams been looking into this exact thing the last few days.
            • Alignment values: I'd say this is most likely related to the above issue, but good to note.
            • Moving forward we're sure going to be adding more rollover and tactile feedback. Thanks for this assurance that it is indeed needed!

Can you describe the color issue a bit more? I'm not quite following.

We are still working hard to get both issues and pressing features added, and releasing as soon as we can. Your suggestions and feedback are great, and it keeps the team on point. Keep a look out for new updates!

              Thanks Seth,
With the colour - I like the colour coded breakpoints however found that with the drop-down box (for naming and adjusting dimensions) I unintentionally deleted a breakpoint. As breakpoints are generally not changed as much after being setup, a warning box for deleting breakpoints would be appreciated, plus avoiding accidently adding or adjusting breakpoints.

              Cheers

It would also be really nice if:

                • you could delete breakpoints. What if you mess up and just want to start over only on that one size?
                • Select items that fall behind other items.
                • lock regions once we like them or add similar functionality like in Photshop, it gives us choices of what we are trying to modify.
                • rollovers need work. What if I want the text in a div to change color while the div itself changes color.
                • Also it would be cool, if I decided to open my reflow file in Dreamweaver, add JavaScript/jQuery to it, then still be able to modify the layouts in reflow if I want to add/modify something. Maybe I would like to adjust what's happening with the layout for iPhones?
                • Also, being able to add a table for product features.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

You can delete breakpoint today. You can click the breakpoint pinhead so it's highlighted in blue and hit the delete key or push the "-" (normally the "+" when no breakpoint is selected). delete_breakpoiont.png

Also, if you long-click (click and hold) the "+" button to get the breakpoint panel, when you mouse over a region you can click the "x" to delete it:

If there is another feature with delete or I don't understand the request please let me know. We use this and the other suggestions to help prioritize what we work on.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for using Reflow!
