But if I go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and select .tar.gz for other Linux from the picklist it gives me 11.2.202.291 which sites like pogo, and even the Firefox built-in plugin version checker (in Tools -> Add-ons, the link that says Check to see if your plugins are up to date), all claim is outdated.
If I instead go to
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
and select
Linux (64-bit) then
Flash Player 11.2 for Ubuntu (apt) and click the Download Now button,
it won't download anything, even though the page says:
If it does not start, click here for troubleshooting Flash Player Windows installation.
If a dialog box appears with the option to run or save, click run.
For additional Flash Player help and support, click here.
Well, the instructions for troubleshooting Windows installation aren't much help in Ubuntu,
there is no popup/prompt for run or save, and
the final click here eventually brings me to these forums.
So,
1) why is the install_flash_player_11_linux.x86_64.tar.gz available from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ not the latest version?
(i.e. it's 11.2.202.291 instead of 11.2.202.297)
and
2) why isn't there an install_flash_player_11_linux.x86_64.apt file for Ubuntu and other Debian kernels available from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ like there is for yum and redhat package manager (rpm) based linux versions?
(which is actually redundant, since yum will install .rpm packages.)
Thanks.

As expected, the so-called support here sucks. Over 100 views and no replies, let alone a solution.

This is a user forum, not Adobe support.

That may be, but the links on their pages lead here...
First at the download page,
Then on http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html it says, "Ask a question in the forum if you still have issues".
So if it's not adobe support, then why does their help page link here?

A week on, I'm guessing other users such as @D12345678910 have already solved the problem, but if not, the 11.2.202.297 version (amongst others) is available @
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html#Flash Player archives
(Note the # html tag in this url, designed to direct down the page to the specified header, I believe; "Flash Player archives" being the in-page header specified in this case; also note that the complete url includes the last two words, "Player archives".) The "last-Linux" v. comes as 9 files all zipped up, & the .tar.gz 's for i386/x86 & x64 are amongst them, as are the x86 debuggers...

Unfortunately, what this is, is "catering to the masses". As a fellow Linux user (Mint 15 and SuSe 12) I know the trials and tribulations of keeping "mainstream" software up to date on an Open Source OS. But because Linux is such a small percentage of the "personal" computing world, Adobe's priorities are on the PC and Mac users, where the most downloads are. I use Linux because I choose to. I tolerate the inconveniences because I have to.

That doesn't do any good for people trying to follow directions that point them to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
since that still gives the version from February.
