Are you running a Mac or a PC.

On a PC,

  • find a .epub file in Windows Explorer.
  • Right click, and choose 'open with'
  • Find your copy of Digital Editions ~ it may already be on the short list, or you may need to browse for it. (probably at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Digital Editions 2.0\DigitalEditions.exe)
  • Select the 'always open with this application' option.

There must be something similar on a Mac, but not sure exactly how.

There is a curious bug that effects some people on Windows 8, and possibly Windows 7, where Explorer refuses to associate Digital Editions with files.

In that case, you can install a free program such as http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html to do the association.
