1. Re: Help me to best allocate drive resources for scratch disks between 4-6 drives on my system?
JSS1138 Jul 20, 2013 8:25 AM (in response to MD Optofonik)It'd be easier if we knew the total capacity of each drive, not just the available space.

nw42 Jul 19, 2013 8:47 PM (in response to JSS1138)Hi,
1. use a fast SSD for all Premiere temp and media cache files
2. combine 2-4 SATA drives to Raid-0 (but keep in mind that esp. Raid-0 configs need a regular backup)
if you work with 200MBit/s and upwards footage (like DNXHD/ ProRes in high bitrate flavours or DPX file lists this is essential.
for codecs below 100MBit/s single SATA drives will working well - split audio and video data to different drives

I'm working with MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 (MOV file format) and DV-NTSC Digital8. Also, some AVCHD-Lite files from an older Lumix P&S (these will be archived and I'll not see files from that camera again in the future).
Thanks

4. Re: Help me to best allocate drive resources for scratch disks between 4-6 drives on my system?
nw42 Jul 21, 2013 9:33 AM (in response to MD Optofonik)then I would try to install a SSD drive for media cache and use single SATA drives for the project data...
the data rates of highly compressed AVC-1 or low res DV video are so low that a single HDD can handle it without problems...
Do you currently have any performanve problems with your drives?
You can try to get some faster exports if you put source files to one HDD and export the movie to another one... (so that the HDD heads don't have to handle read and write request's at the same time)

5. Re: Help me to best allocate drive resources for scratch disks between 4-6 drives on my system?
sparxe Jul 21, 2013 11:00 AM (in response to MD Optofonik)The OS Drive / Video Drive and the Cache Drive set ups are critical. Sources should all be 7200 rpm drives. However, as nw4 said above.... the cache drive should be exact to Adobe specs and it should be an SSD.
Your cache set up, processor, RAM and video card are what determines speed and ease o use. Dont forget your GL, CUDA, and Mercury Rendering Engine optimal set up requirements . It all starts there.
