I cannot fix the flash player. I have sent numerous crash reports, all of which have gone unanswered. The software worked well until I updated it last week.

Thanks. As far as sending the crash reports, you won't receive an answer. Those are gathered and analyzed to determine what, if any, fixes need to be incorporated into the next update. Even here in the form, you haven't reached Adobe, but fellow users.
Chat usually depends on Java, not Flash. Where are you chatting in a Flash client?

Check your plugins: In Firefox - Tools>Addons>Plugins
You should see BOTH Shockwave Flash 11.8.8.00.94 and Shockwave for Director 12.0.3.333. They shold BOTH be enabled.

They are both enabled. It is still crashing.

I'd recommend uninstalling both the Flash Player and Shockwave plugins (using the Control Panel). Then download and reinstall them.
