Brad Lawryk Jul 30, 2013 12:03 PM (in response to A3_Aaron)I agree with all except font size and color. Should only be from current CSS styles. Have seen some clients do some pretty awful stuff when they have access to font size and colors.

TheFauch Sep 17, 2013 3:28 PM (in response to Wojtek P)I agree with al of those features that need to be added, though as Brad said only allowing text to be formatted based on existing CSS styles is a must!
It should be as simple as select the style with the drop down menu, this should stop clients going a little crazy with it as we all know they can get a little carried away!
Something else would also be for the client to also change the page description, think either CushyCMS or SurrealCMS allow this and you can see how the page would looks in SERPs.
With this in mind the option to turn features on and off is needed to!

Frontup Design Sep 26, 2013 2:11 AM (in response to A3_Aaron)Hi Guys,
I also can't stress enough how important the in browser editing is to designers and how frustrating the limited features are at the moment. Where as all the focus seems to be on bringing along the muse program which is great giving the client the ability to make changes just to simple things like text where they can bold or change colour or even change the font size is essential.
I design a lot of school sites and one of the big things that they like to do is a weekly newsletter. These are very basic, text and images. However i am having to add these to their web page as they are unable to do these simple things.
I appreciate its easier said than done but a very simple WYSIWYG editor is what is required.
The in browser editor is an awesome tool however its just to basic and simple.
I am more than happy to share experiences and customer feedback on this subject. Just point me in the right direction as there doesn't seem to be any kind of forum or team to liase with on this.
Ironically - what you see in this panel where i am typing is all that is required initially although a font colour picker and size tool is also required.
THE ABILITY to make changes to font styles within the page; AND then we can talk about clients being able to add attachements for downloading.
Hope this gets some attention soonThanksSimon

5. Re: Improved ICE Editor
123muse.com Sep 26, 2013 3:13 AM (in response to Frontup Design)Hi saw your comments on museGrid and thought I would jump in. Starting from the top lets take a look at what we have here. First up Muse is aimed at designers building static sites which can then be ported to either BC or the hosting of choice. Now alot of us use BC and I am sure that is what Adobe would like us to do however there is now and will be in the future a large swaith of persons using other services. In which case the in browser editing feature is non-starter.
So taking out that chunk of Muse users we are down to Muse and BC users. SOme will build sites for clients that want to change some content others will just give the web designer a call and ask them to do it which if its justa small text change can be done through the browser else the designer will open the Muse file, edit and republish.
So we are now down to a much smaller group of users that want to do more editing in the browser. The new editor that is available in BC is useful and I agree could have a few more options added but what I would rather see is a simple content manager interface that can be uploaded with the site to other services outside of BC even if it had the simple tools that exist now. That would then open the market up to alot more users and really place Muse in a position where it could break some ground into Wordpress teritory.
What do you guys think?

A3_Aaron Sep 26, 2013 8:11 AM (in response to 123muse.com)Agreed Mr. Kellet, but since I am converting most of my clients to BC... and this option is now available, more editing is needed. It's a nice upsell to offer ICE, but this limitation is now having me creating BC Content Holders to have a full-blow WYSIWYG editor.

7. Re: Improved ICE Editor
Frontup Design Oct 22, 2013 4:13 AM (in response to A3_Aaron)I also agree with both but to me it seems that the in browser editing was launched as the new big thing and then all focus post launch has been lost. I am not looking for a complicated interface to be designed but just something that lets the client do that little bit more.
I have two areas where this is being used and in both it is proving limited.
I design websites for schools and host with BC for the in browser editing function. The schools keep their websites updated daily/weekly. One school for example does star pupil of the week, newsletters, events, parent news, etc.
The things I come up against all the time are not being able to create header text for a title and not being able to add an attachment such as a newsletter.
I am also on the verge of taking on a large pub company and the redesign of 19 websites. They want a CMS system so that managers of the pubs can update the website daily. I have taken them through the system which they are impressed with due to the simplicity of it. However when they ask...can you do this or that the answer is often No.
I am having to explain that it is in its infancy stage and adobe are being cautious with what they are introducing in the hope that it will be developed upon.
In browser editing is a fantastic tool and will save designers like myself a lot of time in keeping sites up to date however it is just TOO basic. It only needs a few key functions to make it an awesome tool which will allow us to sell it effectively.
If I could want 3 things they would be
- The ability to create a H1 to H4 header
- The ability to add attachments to download
- The ability to add bold, underline and italics to body fonts.

I don't have an exact timeframe for releases, but should should expect to see several significant updates to ICE over the course of this year, expanding both the reach and featureset for Muse users. The engineers are hard at work on enhancements now and we'll have folks allocated to ICE for the forseeable future.

taikajim Jan 10, 2014 2:26 AM (in response to nathanhoover)Hi Nathan!
Muse users are a little bit confused when you are speaking about ICE-tool (InContext Editing) which is used in BC (Business Catalyst). Normally Muse editor is called IBE (In-Browser Editing).
Nathan, however as far as I have understood you are speaking about Muse CMS so in practice the improvement will become into Muse (IBE), right?
Are we going to call Muse CMS system after improvement Muse ICE or ...?
Please, clarify phraseology to Muse users so that we can avoid any misunderstandings, thank you.
Best Regards

We've deployed a few small enhancements on the BC side, but the next major change will be available to Muse users who have signed up for the Beta program (including NDA) within the next month or so. I can't comment publicly in too much detail in the meantime. Any subscribed Muse user can join the Beta program through the in-app signup process.

I'm just joining this feed.
I have been playing with the ICE editor with email campaigns and a client wanted to be able edit a set of pre defined anchors and the only way I thought it may work would be to have editable "id"s.Any chance this option is going to be included?
Or does anyone know a work around so I can deliver the solution to the client.
Cheers

22. Re: Improved ICE Editor
A3_Aaron Aug 5, 2014 2:13 PM (in response to A3_Aaron)Hi everyone, sorry for the delays...
Here is my workflow for a better WYSIWYG editor, using Muse/BC.
This assumes you have a somewhat decent knowledge of HTML/CSS, and some basic knowledge of BC.
1. Create a Master Template that works well for your home page and page template.
2. Instead of creating pages within Muse, create only a Home Page, and a Template Page (mark as exclude from menus, un-check "include in sitemap.xml". These can be found in Page Properties).
3. Link your Master Page Template to your newly created template (this should be automatic).
4. On your newly created Template page, Insert HTML, include {tag_pagecontent} in the HTML container. Make the html container the width of your page. Make sure to set the Hyperlink Text Style!!!.
5. Duplicate #2,3,4 for Tablet & Mobile.
6. Publish to BC.
7. In BC, make sure to go to: Site Settings / Mobile Support - and ensure Mobile Templates is enabled.
8. Go to Site Manager / Page Templates. Click on your tablet template, click on HTML, copy code. Open the desktop version of the template, and copy the Tablet code to the Tablet Content. Do the same for Mobile. This will essentially create 3 different templates - so when someone is opening up your site, the media queries will direct them to the appropriate template depending on their device.
9. Figure out what pages you want to create - for sake of this exercise, we are creating a Test Page. Go to Site Manager / Pages, and create the page you want by clicking Add Page. Page Name, URL (add .html to extension to keep it consistent with Muse built sites). Template - choose the template you added (click ok when JS alert pops up). SEO Meta Data - same as what you would add to your Muse Site.
10. Go to Site Manager / Content Holders. Create the same Content Holder as the page(s) you created.
11. In the HTML, of the Content Holder you just created, add some "ice:editable code", for example:
<div ice:editable="section">
<div ice:editable="html">
<h1>SITE MAP</h1>
<br />
</div>
<div ice:editable="html">
<p>Add your content here,</p>
<br />
</div>
</div>
Note, to style everything you will need to add/link an external stylesheet to your Master Template - for instance: <link href="/stylesheets/pages.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">. This will allow you to style the various tags using CSS.
12. Go to the Page you created, and in HTML view, add the following (between the <body> </body> tags):
<div id="pageContent">
<div>{module_contentholder,name="Site Map" ice:editable="content"}</div>
</div>
As you can see, there are 2 components: 1) Wrap your page content in an ID or class, for better control; 2) Add the Content Holder you created for this particular page {module_contentholder, name="the name of your content holder" ice:editable="content"}. This particular way allows for an HTML WYSIWYG editor.13. Using dreamweaver, you can style up your content holder/pages using CSS, and can use different Media Query settings so that it is only 1 Page for all 3 devices (yup, no need to create 3 different pages).
14. If everything works well, when you click "EDIT" in the BC ADMIN interface, you will have some extra WYSIWYG settings.
15. I would advise enabling In-Browser Editing so that you can still click through pages.
Hope this helps.

thepowerpixel Aug 12, 2014 10:44 PM (in response to A3_Aaron)Amazing that it's Summer 2014 and the latest update for Muse came but with no improvement whatsoever to the editor! WHY?? My clients are so upset they can add links or bullet points, etc. These are such simple features that are lacking. These additions would considerably make such a difference in helping us satisfy our clients.
Please let us know when this update is coming for sure. It's not a huge request for such a needed tool.

Could you update us on whether Adobe Muse will be adding some sort of wysiwyg html editor to in browser editing. I have a number of clients who are desperate for this and a number of clients lost due to it being too basic as it stands. We haven't had an update since February from you and it would be nice to say that it is on the way.
Thanks

nhoover_adobe Oct 2, 2014 10:01 AM (in response to A3_Aaron)Hi folks,
I'm sorry we haven't answered in this thread before now. Both hyperlinks and styling are on our radar, but most recently the team has been working on support for new features for Muse CC 2014.2, which will be released pretty soon. If you are a participant in the private beta, you can check out the new In-Browser Editing features right now. Additionally, we've put a lot of time and effort into making In-Browser Editing more reliable for different ISP's and FTP configurations. If you weren't experiencing these problems, it's probably of small consolation - but for users who were, it's essential.
Regarding hyperlinks - they are next up on our radar for improvements. I don't have a definite timeframe, but we will get the editing of hyperlinks out within the next several months at the very latest. We are also considering styling, but we don't have a specific design for that yet. What users want in that regard is really widely varied, and in many cases in direct conflict with what other users want. Our user research team is working on this right now and we'll implement something when we know what to do - probably in the first half of next year.
Regards,
Nathan

Frontup Design Oct 14, 2014 4:06 AM (in response to nhoover_adobe)Thanks for the update, here is a typical email that i am getting through from clients which have school websites.
Hi Simon
On the star of the week page could you change the colour of the word Jasper to Red?
Thanks
Jackie
It doesn't sound great when you have to do these simple things for a client however appreciate its not as easy as it sounds but for the client to be able to add some styling would be very useful.
Thanks

Nathan,
As your consumers and client we take in consideration the understanding of the demand and the need to be progressively developing the Muse software. However, one thing I am concerned about is the mere fact that the need for an improved editor is "merely" on the radar. This request is a major foundational piece needed within the framework of Muse. I am not sure what your team saw ahead of the curve but I would have easily assumed it would be to provide a breakthrough software with the necessary elements to make it successful from back end to front end.
If you all would put the need for a more robust site editor ahead of everything as a priority it would make huge advance for us, you have no idea! Forget all the extra bells & whistles right now. What you have currently is more than enough to build great sites. It's the basic functionality we need in place. I mean read "Frontup Design" and their comment. It's ridiculous that their client is having to ask them to change the color of a word.
Personally I am having to make my clients buy Muse because they cannot perform the simplest of tasks with their website like, hyperlinking, changing text color, weight, size, underlining, etc. This is absurd! Please do more than tell us that you all do not have a definite time frame and that you cannot come up with a specific design, etc. A good solid meeting with your current data in hand from us of what we are needing would be an easy task for your team to accomplish. It's not like we are asking for a breakthrough editor. We just need one and we need it in less than several months, we need it in the next update. Please!!!
Thank You,
Ryan
