benvanderberg Apr 29, 2013 1:35 PM (in response to IDEAMAN1)IDEAMAN1,
This is definitely a permissions issue. I figured out how to get it to work. I tried reinstalling it many times on an iMac, but it wasn't working until I did this:
- Select the "Adobe InDesign CS6" folder in your Applications folder
- Go to File > Get Info
- Click the lock in the button right corner to unlock permissions.
- Change the permissions of the folder to Everyone Read & Write.
- Click the Settings (gear) button as select "Apply to enclosed items"
- Click OK.
Now relaunch InDesign. It should work now.
That said, this doesn't happen to ALL machines on MacOS X 10.7.5, only some. If I had to guess, you could probably get it to work if you just go to /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS6/Utilities/adb and change to the everyone read and write, but I can't test it anymore because I can't recreate the issue.
Let me know if this works.

IDEAMAN1 Apr 29, 2013 3:35 PM (in response to benvanderberg)I tried both ways you mentioned and it still has the same problem. I have to believe that it IS a permissions problem as you suspect. But the problem remains. Thanks for keeping me in mind.

43. Re: An update is required to use Folio Builder. Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools.
IDEAMAN1 Aug 1, 2013 6:28 AM (in response to caudman)Unfortunately we have given up trying to address this problem. We still get the disclaimer in Folio Builder saying, "An update is required to use Folio Builder. Please click here to download the Folio Producer tools." We then download the latest offering in the Adobe area online and then open and install. We have closed Indesign and then installed the update, and we have left the program open and tried to resolve the problem (I know this may seem OCD but we think of it as thorough). What happens is that the updater DPS Desktop Tools 27.0, goes through a rapid fire download and install which still results in the previous message.
Let me state that the Adobe folk were extremely kind and attentive, and for a while we even had a rep call us and say they had installed this on other MacPro Towers that cannot use the latest new OS and have had no problem. All I know is that every part of the CS6 Suite works perfectly with what we have except for this download. We even use a laptop Macbook Pro that uses exactly the same OS and is only 18 months old and we have no problems with this message whatsoever.
We have taken other installed hard drives on this tower, completely trashed and cleaned it of programs, reinstalled the CS6 Suite clean with no other programs other than the original OS 10.7.5 used on the Macbook Pro and have had the same problem. So if it had been a previous CS that was causing a problem then this should have relieved it. We have tried to use the previous idea of adjusting preferences as well, but we've had no luck. Naturally we also reinstalled the program, tossed prefs, etc...no dice.
The only thing we can come up with is that the problem is a glitch must be something in the hardware. If that is true then our upcoming move to a new system (iMac) should rectify the problem. However what concerns us is that the normal, economical procedure of simply migrating materials from one system to another new one to replace it could replicate the error (we don't know) and that would make a long, burdensome project even more expensive as it involves time.
In total we've spent about 18 hours trying to explore this problem. Unfortunately this has also caused us to grasp at straws to remedy it, and has led to a few of our designers looking towards Quark for its potential at creating info apps for clients. Admittedly this is not idea. And it is not a threat; but we have to be prudent businessmen and look for a solution that is a good stopgap until we are prepared to drop $4K on a new workstation to replace a system that allows us to use 95% of the CS6 potential. It is vexing to say the least.
We wish you the best and look forward to future posts. We wish we could help. But we've tried and failed with the virtual online assistance and we do not have the time to go fishing for other solutions.

John J Metzger Aug 2, 2013 2:31 PM (in response to IDEAMAN1)sorry to hear this. I can think of no hardware reason why this isn't working on ust this machine.

caudman Aug 5, 2013 5:26 PM (in response to John J Metzger)IDEAMAN1, thanks for the update. It's very helpful to read the process you've gone through to try to fix this.
John J Metzger,
What do you think the issue could be? I am using a Macbook Pro with 10.8.4 and am having the same problem. I've tried a fresh install of CS6 and CC, and all additional updates for DPS will no luck resolving the issue. With DPS on CC not working, I would have used CS6 instead, but DPS is giving me the same problem on both CS6 and CC.
Any feedback would be very appreciated.

UffeSteffensen Aug 6, 2013 1:07 AM (in response to caudman)Hi All!
I have the same problem after installing Adobe CC. Like caudman, I also have a MacBook Pro and also run MacOS 10.8.4 - but luckily DPS still seems to work on my CS6.0.
Are Adobe still trying to solve this matter?
I have installed Adobe CC on 4 different computers - MacBook Pros running MacOS 10.8.4 - and my installations is the only one, where DPS is not working in Adobe CC.
I made the mistake not to change the App Language, on my first installation of InDesign CC - wich resulted in a trial version. I uninstalled and delete everything - changed the langauge from Danish to English (International) and installed everything again. I didn't make that mistake again on the other installations ;o) But could this be the reason for my problems with DPS? The text informing me that an update is necessary is in Danish and not in English. The login-screen for Folio-builder in my CS6.0 is in English...

RPPatrick Jul 17, 2014 2:03 AM (in response to IDEAMAN1)So almost a year later after the last post..
Has anyone ever been able to fix this ridiculous issue.
We had this happen to 2 iMacs (one late 2013 and one mid 2011) and both happened on almost the same time.
I did everything I could find to solve this issue but unfortunately still no luck.
Luckily we have one spare mac which works so far but if that one fails too then we are done...cause apparently even a reinstall of OSX does not solve this issue.
So anybody?

M-Serhio Aug 26, 2014 3:37 AM (in response to IDEAMAN1)It is damn mysterious thing... It does not work for me, too. I've even tried to copy FolioBuilder directly to InDesing package, but, of course, it doesn't work. It looks like, the only thing that remains to us is to wait major InDesing upgrades
Come on, Adobe, we really need get it fixed. Or, at least, some problem explanation
