Steve Werner Aug 4, 2013 7:35 AM (in response to Fyredept)I can't replicate your experience. Just opened InDesign CS6, and got no such message.

Fyredept Aug 4, 2013 9:52 AM (in response to Steve Werner)Unfortunately you can see what I recieved when I opened it. Have been using daily for last several days. I do have a legit copy. It just strarted today and I have changed nothing in my prefs. Have done no updates. I tried restarting my iMac to no avail. Closed and opened Indesign several times to verify. Maybe Adobe can have a look at which certificate it is and let me know. I have shut down the message but not the way I like too.

P Spier Aug 4, 2013 9:55 AM (in response to Fyredept)Is this a cloud subscription or a perpetual license?

4. Re: SSL Certificate Expired Indesign CS6
Fyredept Aug 4, 2013 10:07 AM (in response to P Spier)This is a boxed copy purchased directly from Adobe. So it is perpetual license. It was an upgrade from CS5 Master Collection to CS6 Master Collection. I am waiting till end of the month to go to CC subscription so I can get the first year cheaper. Have opened all my other Adobe programs from collection and getting no message from any of them. Only Indesign.

P Spier Aug 4, 2013 10:10 AM (in response to Fyredept)OK. I'm not seeing that here, either. Does the help menu indicate that the software is activated? Other than activation, I can't imagine what other function would be trying to connect to Adobe.
And it isn't ID that has an expired certificate, it's hl2rcv.adobe.com, which is probably just an oversight of some sort. I have no idea what that address is really for.

Fyredept Aug 4, 2013 10:34 AM (in response to P Spier)I have looked at the help menu and all is good as you will see below. All updates are done as well. I keep it updated on a regular basis. Thanks for your help Peter. The only thing I can think of recently was my Adobe Exchange would not populate when I opened it, but I solved that problem on my own. That was weeks ago and no issue since. As you state it is probably an oversight, but thought I would post it in case anyone else receives the message. Thanks again, really appreciated.

So I open Indesign this morning and find that the SSL Certificate has expired. So my question is, since Adobe has come out with CC, is this going to be the trend at Adobe? Is this going to be Adobe's way of telling me to go CC? Because I am certainly not impressed that I have to go in and change settings so I do not get the message posted below every time I open Indesign, which is a legitimate paid for copy. I am planning on going to CC, but when I am ready. As you can tell I am not pleased to be posting this.
I may be totally wrong here, but this might be originating in the security settings of your browser or other Internet connection settings. SSL is a more-secure way for stuff to travel the 'Net, and some browsers or other Internet tools that manage your accounts and connections, have a setting to make SSL the connection type every time to open a Web site or page. There should be somewhere in yor browser or elsewhere in your Internet account connections manager, that specifies using SSL always. There may be a way to reset the certificate, or to request that it be renewed. Perhaps check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) tech support. Possibly the SSL issue is managed at their level. Also, if you're in a corporate environment, check with your IT support folks.

Peter

P Spier Aug 4, 2013 10:44 AM (in response to Fyredept)As I said, I can't reproduce that, and I can't find anything in ID that wants to connect to that domain.

P Spier Aug 4, 2013 10:46 AM (in response to peter at knowhowpro)Peter,
Indeed, I get a security warning here if I try to connect through a browser direct to hl2rcv.adobe.com, but there is nothing in ID I can find that is trying to connect that I can detect.

Fyredept Aug 4, 2013 11:08 AM (in response to P Spier)First I checked all my browser settings and network settings. All seemed to be properly set, but I also lack knowledge in this area. So I checked with my ISP provider and it comes from their end. They told me that if I trust the certificate, to just turn it off as I have. I am not very knowledgable when it comes to networking and settings. The one thing I really wish I had better knowledge of. Thanks everyone for your help. It has eased my concerns.

Dave Merchant Aug 4, 2013 11:45 AM (in response to MW Design)hl2rcv.adobe.com is one of the Adobe Headlights receivers. They collect anonymous usage information for the Product Imporovement program (e.g. what features you use and how often, any crashes or error dialogs), so the expired certificate won't stop operation of the software itself and doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your license (CC subscriptions and activations go through an entirely different network of servers).
I'm sure someone will refresh the SSL cert as soon as possible, but if you want the warnings to go away just turn off Product Improvement participation (via the help menu).

peter at knowhowpro Aug 4, 2013 12:02 PM (in response to Fyredept)Don't be too quick to dive into learning about networking. Some folks get in so deep that they forget what they wanted to use that network info for.<G>

Fyredept Aug 4, 2013 2:02 PM (in response to peter at knowhowpro)Do not worry about me learning networking. It is just something I have a hard time wrapping my head around. So far I only know enough to stay out of trouble. Thank godness for back buttons! LOL! Thanks for the advice.
Dave, have turned off Product Improvement participation. Not sure why it was on. Thought I had it turned off as it is something I do not prefer to participate in, but obviously I was mistaken.
Having a good day as I learned something new. Thanks for the knowledge everyone.

BenLFrey Aug 4, 2013 8:59 PM (in response to Dave Merchant)For what it's worth, I had the same exact error this afternoon. ID locked up on me when I tried to open a new document (which is extremely rare), and when I force-quit it and opened it back up, I had this certificate error.
CS6, Mac, perpetual license.

P Spier Aug 5, 2013 4:48 AM (in response to BenLFrey)Turning off participation in the in the Product Improvement Program should fix it for now. I turned it on yesterday, but didn't see the warning until I restarted ID whcihi is why I didn't catch it yesterday.
