1. Re: Premiere Pro CC Project File (.prproj) no longer XML?
joe bloe premiere Aug 6, 2013 6:47 AM (in response to kinkersnick127)The project file format has in fact changed in CC7.
I have read it described by an Adobe staffer as now being a 'zipped .xml'.
(can't find the thread)
...are Adobe now obfuscating the project file for a reason?
As I understand it, the stated rationale was to reduce Project file sizes.

Fuzzy Barsik Aug 6, 2013 6:57 AM (in response to kinkersnick127)Is there a way to decode this... ?
Create a copy of your .prproj file for safety sake and rename file extension from .prproj to .zip
Open up the .zip file.

Steven L. Gotz Aug 6, 2013 7:04 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)Fuzzy,
That did not work for me. The ZIP file shows as being corrupted.

Fuzzy Barsik Aug 6, 2013 7:17 AM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)Steven, I didn't try it by myself, 'cos I'm not on CC, but rather relied on this.
If you don't mind sharing a test PrPro CC project file, it will be nice to dabble with.

joe bloe premiere Aug 6, 2013 7:45 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Here is the thread I couldn't find:
Does Premiere CC have a new binary project format (CS6 was xml based)?
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5543833#5543833
Excerpt:
AngeloLorenzo:
"To expand on Steve's answer, the format uses gzip compression.
If you unzip them and use plain XML then Premiere CC will read it
but rezip it when it's resaved in the program."

Steven L. Gotz Aug 6, 2013 7:29 AM (in response to Fuzzy Barsik)Well, that makes all the difference in the world. Change the extension to .gz not .zip and you can open it in Wordpad just fine!
This is a screen shot of the first part of one of my CC files. I renamed it to Copy.gz and had no problems.
Edit: I changed Notepad to Wordpad. Notepad doesn't do XML and Wordpad does.

7. Re: Premiere Pro CC Project File (.prproj) no longer XML?
Stan Jones Aug 6, 2013 8:20 AM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)Notepad opens the CS6 prproj fine. Like Fuzzy, I don't have CC samples to play with, so can't test. But from the description, there should be no difference in the unzipped file.
Note that Wordpad is not a pure text editor and may cause problems is you use it to manipulated the file.
I use notepad++ for such things, and like its added functionality.
