322. Re: new computer to replace mouse
able123 Aug 9, 2013 11:44 AM (in response to able123)if its about so called special effects and particles and all that junk, I personally dont need any of that...I'm just doing simple text stuff...nothing with 'tricky' visual stuff to play around with anything like making things look like something else. Not on this project anyway. I just want good clean sharp great text scrolling or fixed.. simple and great looking.

323. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 9, 2013 11:47 AM (in response to able123)Rod,
As PrPro can do many things, just like Photoshop can, it boils down to what you want to do, whether you will go to AE, or AI. If PrPro, or Ps can do what you want, then I would stick to it.
I will do a good many Titles in PrPro's Titler, but will then go to Ps, when things get intricate. Then, if I need more type-handling capabilities, on to AI.
Same with PrPro and AE. If PrPro gives me what I want and need, I use it. When the envelope gets pushed a bit more, I am off to AE.
Good luck,
Hunt

324. Re: new computer to replace mouse
joe bloe premiere Aug 9, 2013 12:30 PM (in response to able123)I do it because it seems generally cleaner, and there is more
lattitude for how you compose and present text in Ae over Pr.
Even if you aren't interested in "...special effects and particles and
all that junk", it makes things like this poster's question simple to do:
How do I make Text appear Line-by-Line?
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1272565?tstart=0
Pre-composing elements for text is intuitive and works great in Ae,
and there are lots of built-in text effects that can be customized:
.
Also, I feel Premiere is good at editing, Ae is great for finishing.
Maybe it's a holdover from offline / online editing mindset.

325. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Steven L. Gotz Aug 9, 2013 12:45 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)I still do simple titles in Premiere Pro now and then. But the moment I even think about putting them in motion, I use After Effects.
It is so easy to give them a little 3D look, and the presets to animate text are really quite good. When you take the ability to move the light around, or manipulate the camera position to fly over the text, and the ability to easily create reflections... Ae is just better at titles.

326. Re: new computer to replace mouse
joe bloe premiere Aug 9, 2013 12:50 PM (in response to Steven L. Gotz)Agreed.
Textured fills, bevels, 3D depth of field, motion elements w/motion blur,

i agree that there may have been a slight smile on his face when he wrote that post to scold you. Kind of like when your son breaks a window with a baseball, and you have to scold him, even though you are impressed that he was able to hit it that far.
As far as pranks go, it was extremely puzzling yet harmless. Therefore, a well done prank. Of course, I have no idea how I got all the way to 1106 (as of the time I write this). Maybe some of those tests by the Adobe folks are still being counted? Or some of yours?

Steven L. Gotz Aug 9, 2013 1:12 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Joe,
Hmm. Do you put fruit in it too?
If you like Corona, I suggest finding a place that sells Bohemia. It comes out of the same brewery as Tecate and Carta Blanca. Can't get it everywhere though.
When I was a beer salesman back in the 1970's, many retired Mexican Bantamweights had bars in Los Angeles. They would cut the top off of a Tecate can with a can opener, rub a lime on the edge, rub a little salt on it and drink it like a poor man's Margarita.
I prefer my beer without fruit.

Steven L. Gotz Aug 9, 2013 1:18 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Our new place has a lemon tree. Maybe I can convince my wife to add a lime tree? Or I can just paint the yellow fruit green with food coloring.
The tree started out in a big pot but broke through. So there are shards of the original pot around the base of the tree, but it is in the ground without a doubt. I will be building a little box around the tree to fill with dirt and much in order to get rid of the broken pot.

337. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 9, 2013 1:36 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)In about 1973, I discovered Corona. Every afternoon, on our walk back to our hotel in Guadalajara, there was a merchant, who would set up about 3:30PM in the middle of one of the busiest intersections in that part of town. Mostly, his clients were drivers, heading in about six different directions, and he sold a six-pack of loose small bottles (7oz?), in a kind of think plastic bag with ice in it. IIRC, I paid about 60 pesos (old Peso) back then, for 6 small bottles. The caps were kind of "twist-off," but tough to unscrew. An opener would have been better. Each little bottle had an inset, formed into the base, that fit the caps perfectly. So, a driver could use one, like a wrench, to unscrew the cap on another. Now, that did mean that one should hold onto the next to last bottle, to use it to open the last one. We did not get limes, and I saw no one adding those - maybe once they got into really heavy traffic?
Got back to the US, and went looking for Corona. At that point in time, there was no distributor here. At some point in time, that changed, and I began seeing Corona in TX and CA. However, it did not taste quite the same. Fast forward a few more years, and suddenly I saw it everywhere, including on US TV. By then, the lime seems to have become ubiquitous, and remains so, to this day.
I have never warmed to the limes, or to lemons in a Hefeweizen. Now, I do like many of the "fruit" brews, like lambics, and Pyramid's Apricot Ale. That is, somehow, different.
All of that said, maybe we SHOULD start a Beer-Thirty - What's Your Choice? thread?

338. Re: new computer to replace mouse
joe bloe premiere Aug 9, 2013 1:49 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)The Gambrinus Company in San Antonio was the US distributor for years.
They popularized the ubiquitous lime in the bottle through their
'minimalist' style US campaign (I had a chance to cut two of them...
both were a single, continuous :30 take with sfx / and a super).
The distributor is now on the east coast somewhere (I think).

339. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 9, 2013 2:11 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Thanks for that update. It did seem that Corona hit first around San Antonio. Back in those days, we hung out there for Fiesta Week, every couple of years. It was just a bit later that I also saw it in CA - probably San Diego, but could have been LA?
My wife is not into beers, but stil loves the Christmas Corona ad with the palm tree on the beach, which then lights up with Holiday lights, as the finale. That one has been around for a long time. Was that one of yours, or did that come from a later agency and maybe distributor?
Also, considering some of the "local" brews, like Lone Star, Pearl (didn't they buy JAX of New Orleans - one of the worst beers known to mankind?) and Shiner (though I do like their Bock), I can see where Corona would have been a hit, back then.
As several years passed, from those days and night in Guadalajara, not sure if the US Corona did taste different, or whether my memory was just flawed.

340. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 9, 2013 2:13 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)I also see that Shiner now has many, many brews, that I have never tasted. Way back then, there was just Shiner and then the Bock, which was once seasonal. They seem to have come a very long way from being a very small brewery in Shiner, TX. Back then, I would say that their whole operation was smaller than most "micro-breweries" today. Thanks for that link.

joe bloe premiere Aug 9, 2013 2:49 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)That's an old-timer!
Same distributor, same agency, different editor (didn't take much).
The link you posted has the new Chicago distributor's name on it now.
Hey... not east coast, but third coast.
And,
Shiner has now become very hip in Texas.
JAX Beer... Ack!
-
343. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 9, 2013 3:23 PM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Joe,
Thanks for the updates.
Glad that Shiner is doing some things correctly. Way back when, they were a tiny operation, and it seemed that they had a cult following by maybe University of Texas students (?). The folk at the brewery were very nice, and accommodating, and I never shared that I did not like their regular beer, but did appreciate the Bock. I just said "Yum, and thank you." Stil, very nice people - way to go!
As for JAX, there is not much to say. New Orleans probably produced the worst beers in all of the US: JAX, Dixie 45, Falstaff and Regal. It was not until Dixie failed, then was reborn, and started doing some small-batch brews, that they finally hit on something that I could drink - Blackened Voodoo, then Red Voodoo, but I do not believe that either was made in New Orleans anymore. The old brewery might have still done a few beers, but it was devastated by Katrina, so think at everything ceased there, and probably long ago.
Now, just across the Lake, the Abita Brewery is turning out some popular stuff, though all that I have tasted have left me questioning - why drink this beer? Still, tourists flock to the Abita beer constantly - think that it is an Internet-fueled "mob reaction," but I have not had everything in their portfolio. My joke with their TurboDog was that it needed to go back through the dog, one more time...
My beer drinking really slowed down in the early 80's, and did not pick back up, until the advent of some of the then micro-breweries (though many are not so "micro" anymore). Because of those, I again branched out to include a lot more imported brews. That market was not all that big, going back. The distribution of such was very limited - today, it's a market that is filled with 100's, if not 1000's of offerings, and many are very good.

Steven L. Gotz Aug 9, 2013 5:56 PM (in response to able123)Rod,
We strayed away from your questions and I don't know if Bill answered them privately.
You got 1920 x 1080 psd with alpha channel that has safety for title and action on it hanging around ???
If Bill doesn't have one handy, right click here to download mine.
You can turn on the black layer if you want to adjust the line for the text up or down. Please note that you probably will not go less than a 48 point type on a 1920X1080 frame. I am more inclined to put my titles a little higher than the line I drew if they are that small. But that line works for rather large text, I think. I generally just wing it.
You can use the Photoshop file itself or export to web using PNG with transparency.
You prefer text up above the middle of the frame instead of using Lower Thirds?
A screen shot of the PSD in Premiere Pro looks like this. Is this what you had in mind?

using ps7 on mouse.
but YES ! that is exactly what I had in mind...and yes, the center thing with line above will work good for centering single lines of title stuff, etc. I might just lower it a hair ....after I see what it looks like ..
Thanks Steve...can you double check the file ??

Not sure if you have seen this article on "Alignment Grids" from Photoshop: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4319250#4319250
Just as I was doing that article, the forums canceled the ability to attach files (due to evil spammers), so I only have SD grids there. I need to just construct the same for standard HD Frame Sizes, pretty much what Steven did, and see if I can attach those now.
I will look at Steven's file, to see if I can determine what your issue with it is.
Good luck, and let us know what you need from us.

Real cool... lots of potential for other additions later on as needed ( for pip etc ). And great color choice for the lines...( will be good against both dark and light images )...

349. Re: new computer to replace mouse
Bill Hunt Aug 10, 2013 9:19 AM (in response to able123)Rodney,
That was a very generic grid, and could be customized to suit. It shows Action-Safe and Title-Safe, plus the centerlines, horizontal and vertical.
If you are always working with the same size Text Block, and want everything to fit inside that, regardless, you could use the Ps Shape Tool to create a Path for that "block," then just apply a Stroke (no Fill), with maybe bright green, red or blue, and use that to make sure that all Title Text fits within that "box."
I use similar, when doing PiP's, so that I can visually Scale and Position those in the same exact space, at the same exact size.
Lot's of uses - but just remember to turn the Track, where you use the grid, OFF, before you Export, or they WILL be burned into your output file. I have forgotten a few times, and had to redo the Export.
Good luck,
Hunt

able123 Aug 10, 2013 9:29 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)I'm kinda new at this editing stuff... and never really understood offline vs online...
I suppose offline is doing stuff in pieces and adding all the pieces onto the timeline ( now called 'online' ? ) for final export...maybe to AE again ( if titles were done there ) for finishing ? I have no clue.
=======
Also, I feel Premiere is good at editing, Ae is great for finishing.
Maybe it's a holdover from offline / online editing mindset.
=======
So how do you get your timing down and your music and stuff where you want if you dont have the text on timeline in prepro ?

352. Re: new computer to replace mouse
joe bloe premiere Aug 10, 2013 10:35 AM (in response to able123)Hi able123,
Thanks for contacting adobe forums,
The reason is that
Offline editing is part of the post-production process of
filmmaking and television production in which raw footage
is copied and edited, without affecting the camera original
film stock or video tape. Once the project has been
completely offline edited, the original media will be
assembled in the online editing stage.
I believe this will help you, if there would be any doubt please reply us.
Happy Editing,
Sandeep

soooo, if I do something in AE ( simple title like that says, " Hello World " ) can I then put that in my timeline in PrePro as an ae file ..and then when I do my export, that ae file will actually be BETTER than if I had done the title in prePro using PS ?
Is that the general idea ??

356. Re: new computer to replace mouse
able123 Aug 13, 2013 11:43 AM (in response to able123)hmmmm..... reality sinks in a little bit....
Did 58 secs of documentary getting me to end of main title. is all graphics so far...psd text and a nasa pic of earth from space. earth starts small and zooms in ( scale position ) to basically MN. area.
When I right click the keyframes for scale position and choose " ease in " that little pop up window goes away, and then I right click the same keyframe and it's the same as before I chose 'ease in' ( in this case it is 'bezier' ).
Seems to be sorta stuck on bezier. I'd rather the motion started out a bit more slowly.
Anyway, looking at it in prepro looks okay and so decided to test an export ( first time ! yipee ! ) and chose h264 matching source ( 1920p 2997).
The PIG woke up from his normal state of just hanging out eating stuff and did okay re: the export time etc... kinda long but no crashes or blue screens.
Then I played the resulting file in classic media player at full size and it was kinda wanky looking... a bit less quality than I'd like, and the motion bothers me ( the lack of 'ease in ' working ).
So now I'm thinking this is probably going to be the reality of this stuff and I shouldn't get too hung up on trying to get more out of cs6 or I'd be wasting half my life on quality issues rather than just working on stuff...
pig is happy... I am resigned to what it is.

357. Re: new computer to replace mouse
able123 Aug 13, 2013 12:03 PM (in response to able123)thinking a bit more about this... I guess the next thing is to try export as mpeg2 for bd and then try for dvd as well ( downscale to sd ).. and see what it looks like... I gotta jump thru hoops a bit to export some iso image and use imgBurn for one of those ( forget if its hd or sd )...but that would be the final products im interested in...more than likely.
I better put in some actual " movie " stuff in there just for this next test ...like from the nikon d800.. and see what it looks like too.
anyway, moving along ....
if there are any secrets about getting 'ease in ' to actually work on keyframes dont be shy ...
-
358. Re: new computer to replace mouse
able123 Aug 13, 2013 12:25 PM (in response to able123)forget everything i said up there...about ease in and whatever...
I have tons more problems than that and i can try ease OUT instead of ease in...and just play with that junk till it works.
my bigger problem now is the timing anyway. it's totally OFF visually. It is right on re: the music, but when I play it without the sound it is stupid looking... cause I put some music in there to get some pace and stuff happening... but that was the wrong thing to do....
the whole timing of the thing ( first 58 secs ) visually is off... so I gotta work on that first. at least I made progress though... with good ol pig...and now I'll get back to work.
im an idiot !

If the former, then I think that you will appreciate the Effects Control Panel (ECP). Just Select your Clip/Still/Title, and open the ECP. Everything that you need is right there.
