Please clarifiy your intent in using Videomerge on the image above another. It is to create areas in the above track content through which the bottom track image will appear?
Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of your video card?
Have you tried applying your Premiere Elements 7 Edit Header/Effects/Video Effects/Adjust/Image Control and adjusting the Brightness?
We will be watching for further details.
Thank you.

mikapee Aug 12, 2013 11:14 AM (in response to A.T. Romano)It seems videomerge is not the only problem.
When I bring a photo to timeline it is ok for a half a second and then
turns darker.
I have the latest driver.

Steve Grisetti Aug 12, 2013 11:16 AM (in response to mikapee)As ATR says, can you tell us more about how you're using Videomerge?
Was the original photo that you applied Videomerge to shot in front of a greenscreen or bluescreen? Videomerge will only work with video or photos shot of an actor in front of a plain, ideally blue or green background.

Bill Hunt Aug 12, 2013 11:22 AM (in response to mikapee)One thing that can cause an Image, or Video, to look "darker," is if the Opacity has been adjusted below 100% - where by design, or accident. Is the Opacity of the offending Still Image set to 100%?
Good luck,

Thanks for the follow up.
Let us focus our attention of the source media.
You mention Timeline black and white photos darkening. Does this happen with a video on that same Timeline? Are the videos in color or black and white?
Focusing on the photos, what are the pixel dimensions of one of these the darkens with playback? Were these photos edited in Photoshop Elements or Photoshop and assigned a specific color space?
Is using the Image Control Effect Brightness any remedy for what you are encountering?
Let us look at the above and then go deeper into the details as indicated by your answers.
Thank you.

6. Re: Image gets darker when using videomerge (elements 7)
mikapee Aug 12, 2013 11:26 AM (in response to Steve Grisetti)We can forget about the videomerge, this error is coming without it
also, I just noticed it first time using videomerge.
Now, if I just bring an image to timeline it is ok but after a half a
second it turns darker. Now I tried a color foto and it seems that there
is a slight change to negative. Or some part of the picture looks like a
negative.

Bill Hunt Aug 12, 2013 11:33 AM (in response to mikapee)Mikapee,
In Reply #2, you state:
I have the latest driver.
What is the make and model of your video card?
What OS version are you running?
What is the number and date of the installed video driver?
Is that the very latest from the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site? I do not trust the OS, or any 3rd party utilities, to tell me if I have the latest, as those are usually about 6 mos. out.
When you talk about the Image on the Timeline, going "negative," that leads me to question the video driver, as there have been several threads on the Clip looking like a "negative," though most also indicate a cyan "tint" too.
Good luck,
Hunt

8. Re: Image gets darker when using videomerge (elements 7)
mikapee Aug 12, 2013 12:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)GeForce 210
Driver 320.49
Date 21.6.2013
Windows xp
I tried several videos and it looks there is no logic I can tell which
videos turn "negative" or perhaps it is a cyan "tint". All of them do not.
Shot with same camera at the same hour.

9. Re: Image gets darker when using videomerge (elements 7)
Bill Hunt Aug 12, 2013 12:40 PM (in response to mikapee)Mikapee,
Thanks. That looks like the latest, non-beta driver for your card and XP.
At this point, I would follow some of the other troubleshooting tips in the thread, and keep those beta-drivrs in the back of your head. If something else does not solve the issue, then I would create a System Restore Point for right now (in case something goes wonky), then install the latest beta driver, reboot and test.
Good luck,
Hunt

When you get a chance....
Looking forward to your follow up on my comments in post #5 since it appears that you have now factored out the video card driver aspects of your issue.
Thanks.

mikapee Aug 12, 2013 11:34 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)Hello,
some color video clips does the same in another project. Cyan tinting or
whatever, I'm not sure of the description.
Photos may have been edited, I need to ask the person who took them.

Bill Hunt Aug 13, 2013 9:13 AM (in response to mikapee)Mikapee,
When you have a chance, take a look at the example of "off color" display, in this PrPro thread, for some years ago, to see if the OP's example looks at all like what you are seeing: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2270418#2270418
Good luck,
